IMPORTANT UPDATE: Things are off the ground! You are all allowed to begin work on your adventures, as of shortly before the time I am making this post! I have high expectations from each and every one of you.
A text-based adventure contest! Leave your tablets and art pens at the door, this is going to be a battle waged with words.
Here's how it's going to go down:
I have two lists here. One of them is a list of possible settings: Western, Sci-fi, Medieval, Modern, Dystopic, Prehistoric, Superhero, ______punk, Office, and Animals.
The other is a list of tones: Horror, Romance, Fantasy, Buddy Cop, Crime, Road Trip, Political, Educational, Martial Arts, and Children's.
You, should you choose to be one of our brave contestants, will be randomly assigned an item from each of these two lists, and your task is to create and maintain a text adventure using your assigned setting and tone as a jumping-off point! It should last oh, say, about a month. From there, the sky's the limit. Let your creativity and writing skill shine through!
Possibly Asked Questions:
Q: How will this contest be judged?
A: By me, primarily! It will be judged on such criteria as creativity, clarity of conception, skill at writing such things as dialogue and scene... but foremost on one very important thing: Is it entertaining? Does it have that certain je ne sais quoi that hooks readers, and makes people chomp at the bit for your next update? Is it fun?
(I should add that I am taking applicants for co-judges, if you'd like to participate but don't have the bug to start an adventure. Send me a private message!) Edit: Wheat has graciously offered to serve in a co-judicial capacity for this contest! Tender your bribes/blackmail accordingly.
Q: Is there an applicant limit?
A: No! At least, I don't think we'll be needing one. I'd prefer if you sent in your application as soon as possible, which leads me into the next question:
Q: When will you start?
A: December 1! It will last a month from that date, at and the end of it, we will decide our winner or winners. (You are all winners for participating. This is more than a platitude, because the only real prize being offered is fun, and hopefully you all get some of that.)
Contestants are encouraged to contribute constructive suggestions to their fellow competitors! This is very much a friendly competition, and everyone needs suggestions to get off the ground, so do your part for your neighbors and they'll do the same for you.
Further questions are also welcomed.
