I could use some backgrounds practice! One a day is probably beyond me but I'll shoot for at least two (maybe three?) a week.

I get the feeling June may be a dull month for me so I think I'll give that world building one a go. I've got a fantasy setting that needs fleshing out and I might consider running a game in it if it turns out all right.

If I can find a 30 day writing challenge that tickles my fancy, then I'll probably participate!

Welp. I'm now doing the World Building June thing because of an 11:30 thought that came to me as I was going to bed, whoopee.
Day One: Introduction
Show Content
SpoilerSo the basic idea of this setting that took me all of five minutes of sleep deprivation to write down is set in a universe similar to ours. Somewhat. The earth is less spread out, with only a few continents instead of the normal seven. On these continents, mainly dotting the coastlines, are huge, concentrated cities towering above the treetops. The fauna and flora of the world are significantly larger, more jungle-like in nature, and tend to be more dangerous the farther away from the cities they are. The main city (or at least, the only one I've really given any thought to) is known as New Santiago.
Humans are still present in this world and are pretty much identical to us. However, somewhere along their development as a species, they came to coexist with another group of creatures, said creatures being significantly more enigmatic than humans. These creatures, known as of right now as 'Spectra'. The Spectra have come to coexist with humanity over time.
The Spectra seem to have adapted their lives to match humans' in strange ways. Their more notable features involve bonding with human children at birth, staying with their bonded human until the human dies, fading away when their human dies, and being completely invisible to most people until their human's eighteenth birthday.
Yeah, the prompt questions for this one were really open ended so I didn't know what to do, so I just spewed out a bunch of stuff.

Oh, I hadn't realized there were prompts for Worldbuilding June, I was just planning to do my own thing and just try to post something every day.
I assume nobody minds if I keep doing that, though.

Yeah, there's like a whole Tumblr thing for it, which I was glad for because I usually need a bit of help getting off the ground with these things.

If you can manage to build a world for 30 days straight then everyone will be very impressed regardless, i think. :>
Nice efforts so far, guys!

They're actually a selection of prints and doodles from my friends/me/things i got at chromacon. Most of them are white but it wouldn't have shown up very well on the pale yellow background, so they're purple there.

Whoops almost forgot about this.
Day Two: Geography
Show Content
SpoilerAs previously stated, outside of the cities, most of the world is rainforest like flora and fauna. The trees tower tall, usually averaging 15-20 feet, with many easily going past that size. The treetops and the rainforest floor are like two separate worlds, with the treetops being brightly lit and full of fliers and climbers of all sorts. A good portion of the fruits and vegetables consumed by the people in cities are harvested from this area. The floor is dark ninety percent of the time, shrouded by the enormous trees. Because of this, there are lots of things down there that have developed bioluminescence. It's also the breeding grounds for some particularly nasty predators that have adapted to hunt in the dark.
The oceans are mainly shallowish and warm, though there are a large amount of trenches zigzagging across the ocean floor. As most of civilization in the world is placed upon the shores, fish are the largest, if not the only, provider of protein.
Aside from the main, warm climate, the poles of the planet are still cold, though less so. They are still mainly ice, though rivers, waterfalls, and lakes and ponds are not uncommon sights in both the arctic and antarctic. Lands closer to the poles are cooler and tend to have shorter and smaller fauna, as well as longer winters and more mountains. There is only one city not placed near to the equator, and that's in a place around the same area where Greenland would be.
In addition to all of this, the ground is very mineral rich, containing vast quantities of metals like iron, copper, and nickel; there is also a mineral known as 'spaccite' that exists close to the surface. Due to research, Spaccite was discovered to have been integrated into the soil around the same time that the Spectra began appearing. Besides that, the ground is home to a strange cave system, expanded upon and explored by humans.

Day 3 is my character swimming. On an uninhabited planet. Oh okay. My superhero character apparently has some sort of enemy capable of teleporting one across the galaxy at the most inconvenient time.
