You're Everyone

You're everyone. You, including everybody else, have been living in a small but peaceful valley for longer than anyone can remember. You would spend most of your days foraging, later returning to the same spot to share food and stories as the sun set.
Something has changed. You, along with everybody else, have searched throughout the entire valley. In the past, there's always been enough food. Today, there's nothing.
You've gathered at the usual meeting place. Some people want to leave, though there's no consensus on where to go. Leading out of the valley there's only one pass, and it's through a dense and seemingly lifeless forest- it might be easier than climbing the mountains that surround you, but there's no telling if it's any less dangerous. Some have suggested following the flocks of birds that fly between the lowest peaks, heading (hopefully) towards more fertile land. Others suggest staying; for all you know, the valley could be back to normal tomorrow, and those birds passing by should be easy to hunt.
Either way, you're starting to get hungry.
