Hawkspace Isles: Wings of Chaos The Setting Thread
04-16-2016, 04:40 PM
(This post was last modified: 05-09-2018, 07:10 AM by Electrum.)
This might be the most worng place to post this at. But who the fuck cares?
Hawkspace sounds so much like a name of a fucking DnD setting. So just as a stray thought, I decided. Why don't we make a "group-effort" (I use it loosely) tabletop rpg setting dedicated to whatever "ideals" Hawkspace stands for.
One of the playable races will be Goblins. Orcs will replace Humans, who are definitely not allowed to be in this at all. They're dumb and boring. Maybe some kind of insectoid race too?
The Hawkspace is a collection of gigantic islands on the back of a giant Hawk, eternally flying through an aspatial, atemporal void. Encircling the Hawk is its mate the white Eagle of Time, in its two claws the Eagle holds the Sun in its right and the Moon in its left. In its beak it holds a jug filled with the water of life.
The islands are in fact incredibly tiny, invisible to the naked eye when compared to the size of both the Hawk and the Eagle. But if I was to say how big a standard island is, it would be somewhere between our Earth and Saturn in variation. Aberrations definitely exist and that is kind of par the course. This means that not only is the Eagle and its Moon and Sun are so hyper-fucking massive but that a good chunk of the Hawkspace islands share them.
That's all I have right now, feel free to add and brainstorm ideas of your own. I hope our ideas can align together.

I don't have the mental energy to contribute to this right now, but I definitely want to say it's already amazing

Obviously birds are a race. It's just that nobody can agree on their traits.

Tricky, dicky owl wizards sounds like a mighty fine idea. Also lizard wizards too.

though i'm more than willing to accept a very loose interpretation of goblin, so long as they remain goblins in spirit

I'm sorry but your Green Supremacist views are not appreciated.[/DUMB-JOKE]
(Stupid dumb jokes aside)
But for real, only having Goblins as a race across like innumerable planet sized islands on the back of a giant Space Hawk would be some boring shit. This is a setting that should encourage like, lots of out there ideas and creativity. Having Goblins and only Goblins would be no different than just having straight up normal humans, it's no fun.
With that said, I'm totally supportive of your Goblins thread. Yer doing Gods work, Loather!

"Goblin's" should simply just be the category to which all sapient beings belong, in a similar fashion to how we might use the word "person"

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, you're making me think too much on this Jacq hahahah. Goblins technically is like a category, that lumps a lot of malicious Faerie/Spirits together. But words change over time and it just now means (at least to me) short green people who are also very tricky. So in a way making Goblins a category in this setting is very hyper confusing to me. Cause like it would mean they're sorta-kinda returning to what they originally were but at the same time going into a completely different direction. Uuuh, I'm not sure if that makes any sense.
I also was thinking about this outlandish lore fluff idea, about a dude who sleeps on top of the head of the Space Hawk. Because Space Hawk and Time Eagle both never sleep while travelling through a timeless, aspatial void they need a middleman to do the sleeping for them. So they got this gross naked Homunculus to literally absorb all their sleep deprivation and eternally just snooze. This also means that all his dreams are the Hawks and Eagles dreams too, and they come to live in the form of all kinds of weird junk, from magic artefacts that disappear to horrid monsters to new islands.

This is mostly shaping up to be a "by the seat of your pants" setting, anyways:
I figured the naked sleepy mans bad dreams would be this settings equivalent to Neutral Evil Outsiders, not quite Yugoloths/Daemons but drawing from the same principles of causing indiscriminate evil. They'd be a diverse bunch and limited only by the observant imagination of the Time Eagle who does not always catch all the details of the Hawkspace islands it glances upon. The Space Hawk only ponders about shitposting on a computer, so his dreams are more goofy. When SpaceHawk dream creatures come about they are predisposed towards Chaotic Neutrality but there is nothing to stop an alignment shift in their nature, because as Chaotic beings they have more capacity towards free will. Consequently these dream creatures are slaves to their whims if they choose to commit to a purely Chaotic lifestyle.
It should be noted that despite the alignment of both the "Hawk-Eagle nightmares" (place holder name for the NE Outsiders) and the CN dream creatures. Both the Space Hawk and Time Eagle are True Neutral, concerned only with each other as spouses tend to be. Both the birds would occupy the rank of Overdeity, they never, ever interfere in each others business otherwise it would completely jeopardise all of reality as we know it. It is unknown whether other beings besides the Eagle and Hawk exist in the void but not outside of possibility.
Hmm, now to think of some lower ranking deity pantheons for the Hawkspace islands, there's probably going to be a lot. So go hogwild I guess.

Hmmm, maybe bringing this setting here wasn't the brightest idea. It was a spur off the moment thing but I like it too much to throw it under the bus. Maybe I should see about moving it to Forum Games?

If you want to do this worldbuildery in a more structured/serious fashion, I'm all good with it moving to either of Projects/Forum Games. I would suspect that off-the-cuff settings ideas will still be a thing, however.
Only ish is that Hawkspace is the NO GODS/MODS ZONE and while I know I can move a thread into Hawkspace (with OP permission), I forget if it falls within my jurisdiction to move threads out.
It's probably nbd because you're the OP and you want this moved, but I'm a stickler for rules and the rules say Hawkspace is immune from my long modlaw arm, mainly in the spirit of "Schazer don't be a whimsicle fuckerer".
Literally as soon as Pharmdrugs says "nah Schaz can move the thing" then I can move the thing.

Oh Spacehawk should have a facade of a free market. LLorts are humanoid excrement people. They are in charge of the Inter-Island Multinational Western Hawkspace Bank. They are made and literally full of shit. They are contributors to the façade of a free market.

I have consulted a magical talking rock that is very enthusiastic about selling medicine. And there's a possibility that Forum Games might become this threads new home. But we shall wait and see first. In the meantime: Hi Forum Game folks! I'm Bobert and I made a "by the seat of your pants" setting that revolves around EagleTime and HawkSpace depicted as Discworld-esque deities. I'm hoping to get more people to contribute to this, since I love brainstorming together with people and I don't wanna have this turn into an echo-chamber.
Feel free to suggest and expand on already existing ideas (though nothing is completely set in stone). There are no hard-rules for this but the setting is aiming to be bizarre and whimsical in tone and nature. Therefore really weird and out there ideas are welcome and encouraged.

Main species:
Birds:
Eagles: Subset of bird. Usually Lawful, often Good.
Hawks: Subset of bird. Always Chaotic, any morality. Bitter rivalry with eagles. Like Drows vs Elves. Speak only using words in the style of deep ruin architectural exploration/excellent words that aren't actually words.
Other birds
Lizards: For Gatr
Goblins: Goblins. Follow the Goblin Queen.
Goblin's: Non goblin followers of the Goblin Queen. Most of them are insects, arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, etc
Furries

Obviously since bird people will be one of the core races, Kenku will too be a type of PC bird race. They are tricky criminal bird people, also like money.

If anyone's thinking about running a game using this, I'm down - I only just rolled a new 5e character
