You advance on the kobold, who seems INCREDIBLY UNPREPARED FOR BATTLE. The prod you with the FAKE DAGGER, which does no damage at all. You HUG THE KOBOLD tightly, and run a claw under its chin.

The kobold is incapable of dealing with the level of flirting(?) and werewolf hugs that you're dishing out and promptly passes out.

You lightly set the kobold down for its impromptu nap, and look at the three corpses. They're not fresh. You give one a small nibble.

THE KOBOLD IS DEFEATED(?)

As is the rule with any living and defeated monsters, you put the Kobold (M) into your inventory, along with all of the items it was holding. This includes the FAKE DAGGER, the WOODEN SHIELD, and its life savings of SEVEN DOLLARS. This can only go well.

These corpses don't seem to have anything useful on them. You pose them so they look like they're playing cards. Perfect.

spend the level in Levelling, that is, you can make flat surfaces out of a limited number of things. Until you reach max level as STAIRMASTER, where you can walk forever on the stairs you create.

You put your new point into CARPENTRY in order to make things like LEVEL STAIRS and WOODEN OBJECTS.

Your Kobold friend is still unconcious, and doesn't seem to be waking up anytime soon.

You use the TWO STICKS, the WOODEN SWORD, and half the HERB to make a KOBOLD SLEEPY TIME BED for your friend to sleep comfortably in. This all remains in your inventory.

You put the rest of the HERB to one of the card playing corpses. What a smooth customer, if he weren't a rotten gunky junk master.

Next to where the stairs SHOULD be, there are four places for them! There's one two feet off the ground, one three feet, one four feet, and one five feet, each higher than the last.

HOW WILL YOU SOLVE THIS PUZZLE?

by burning the kobold with all four torches while they're asleep to make a multi-colored bonfire of blood and gore!

Some ancient god of yore will probably have pity on you, ascending from the deepest of hells to tell you the answer to the puzzle

put the purple torch in the highest one
the red torch in the one four feet off the ground
the green torch in the second one
and blue torch in the remaining one

Try red in the lowest, green in the second lowest, blue in the second highest, purple in the highest

Or if that doesn't work, try red in the highest, green in the second highest, blue in the second lowest and eat the purple one.

After a few attempts, you put the torches with the red the lowest, then green, then blue, then purple. Oh, it's like a Rainbow! Nice.

DOWN COME THE STAIRS! Looks like that was the way to go with it.
