i had a moment of sudden appreciation for the word "y'all." It's a beautiful, one-syllable contraction for a phrase that is otherwise awkward and takes multiple syllables to write/say.

but it just sounds so... texan

That's the irony of it. It's so eloquent, yet brash. Like a geode of slang and utility.

I dunno, people say it in Alberta. Then again, Alberta is basically Canada's texas

Y'all occupies a largely otherwise unfilled niche in English. I like having it around and using it, cultural preconceptions about people from the south be damned.

Capybara is a good word. Good name for a friend-shaped rodent. In fact, the word itself seems friend-shaped.

Now that I think about it, I use "guys" as the second person plural.

For instance, when addressing a classroom I typically say "Okay guys," as opposed to "Alright, y'all" or "Now, Everyone".

"Y'all" for whatever reason feels too colloquial, with "Everyone" feeling too formal when addressing a group of students.

'Guys' is a good word. Not too formal, and it's generally accepted to mean any group of people. It's also more personal, like something you'd say in reference to your friends or people you know relatively well, so it doesn't feel distant.
