A shrill, birdlike screech sounds from the roof. Aubrey and Rahasya spin to face it.

RAHASYA
"Something followed you here."

AUBREY
"Don't look at me like that."
"I came alone!"

you should probably suspend this conversation to inspect the thump. guard up Aubrey, you were really scorching there for a moment, who knows what that could have attracted.

AUBREY
"Yeah, well, whose fault is that?"

RAHASYA
"You're not helping your case, little lost one."

Aubrey glares.

I guess that answers the question of whether or not this room has a roof.

Probably the care package, but might want to play it safe.

> Switch Ada to GUARD mode. Be careful if you don't want to be killed like your friends.

Aubrey orders Ada into GUARD mode.
Ada won't aggrieve any perceived threats unless they provoke Aubrey first!

If you have the time, tell Rahasya that you plan on rescuing someone from Biru. Given that Rahasya doesn't seem too fond of Biru, you might be able to receive some aid, become friends, or something along those lines.

Rahasya curses in some eldritch tongue, and Aubrey in plain English. The Hearty Box sits on the roof, guarded by a cawing, shadowy creature.



Aubrey and Rahasya stare. The creature beats its wings, while the air comes alight with white noise. Aubrey covers her ears.

AUBREY
"What is that? I-it doesn't look like anything from the Blue World—"

RAHASYA
"Because it's not! This creature isn't from any realm within the Iridescent Queen's jurisdiction at all."

Their brow furrows.

RAHASYA
"They're a common sight in other worlds, but the Iridescent Queen takes care to keep such beasts away."
"You must have made quite the tear in reality to let in a Greater Wing of the Black Sun."

The Greater Wing's eyes lock on Aubrey. It recognizes the flavour of her WILL...

AUBREY
"This is going the exact opposite of well, Council. What now?"

Ahem. I know it has been a while since we've been in this situation, but all those years ago we DID find/settle on a few rules.
Namely, siphoning off WILL for personal use is a no-go in more ways than one. To start with, that would upset what balance we have between members of the council.

Second, if you care about such things, draining too much is dangerous for both the physical and mental health of our subject. In this case, Aubrey here.
Third, and this is important so listen carefully,from prior testing, most subjects have a limited pool of WILL to draw from. As long as they have some left, they can recover the whole pool. Draining the whole thing is... Well, let's not let that happen, shall we?
Anyways, so far our actions have been out of charity. Or investments. Either way, our actions have been fueled using our own resources.
Now, we do have documentation on Pacts, Barters, Loans, WILL (Note the lack of color.) and such matters filed away in our warehouse.
...But this seems like a poor time to strike such things. Perhaps soon. Possibly even very soon.
And yes, I do remember the signed agreement all those years ago. When the time comes, I am obliged to answer questions on this subject. Sigh.

Aubrey shrugs, ignoring Rahasya's confrontational tone.

"A secret admirer. What can I say? I'm popular."

The Greater Wing pecks at the lid. Aubrey notices the latches are missing. So, this shadow bird wants to eat her soul, and her present?
Aubrey begs to differ!

The Greater Wing emanates black smoke, and Rahasya drops into a defensive stance. Aubrey steps backwards. Ada's gems crackle with energy.

"Okay. Let's roll."

Aubrey dashes for the house.

RAHASYA

Their plea goes unheard, drowned out by the Greater Wing's cry. It swoops to the ground, missing Aubrey by a hair's breadth as she ducks into the doorway.

Aubrey barrels into the room. The Greater Wing squeezes itself through the door and dives for her. Aubrey rolls out of reach, and the Greater Wing collides with Rahasya's corkboard furniture set. Chairs and table fly.

While the Greater Wing re-orients itself, Ada and the Green Book zoom to Aubrey's side. Ada prepares for battle, while the book shuts its cover tight. It shivers in fear.

AUBREY
"More of a lover than a fighter, huh?"

The book's cover clatters apologetically.

The Greater Wing makes a shrill noise, talons scoring the newsprint. Aubrey cringes. Well, that's what Rahasya gets for building their house from imagination-newspaper.

RAHASYA
"...!!!"

Speak of the devil.



RAHASYA
"What are you doing!? Fight it outside!"

AUBREY
"We have an arena advantage indoors!"

RAHASYA
"My home is not an arena!"

AUBREY
"It is now."

Rahasya stares at the remnants of their furniture in despair.

AUBREY
"Help me—I mean, my bracelet—fight it! You're supposed to be dangerous, right?"

RAHASYA
"When have I ever implied that? Regardless, you have my aid. My poor house..."

AUBREY
"What about the book? It's definitely magic."

SPECIAL: Use an elemental attack (Fire/Ice/Shock). Costs 1 SP apiece.
AUTO: Leave Ada to her own devices.

SPECIAL - THE DEX: Look up something, or someone's, stats. Costs 1 SP.
SPECIAL - INVIGORATE: Restores a random amount of SP to one target. Costs 2 SP.
SPECIAL - CONVERT: Turns any specified unit of SP into HP, and vice versa.
SPECIAL - HEAL: Restores 5 HP to any target. Costs 2 SP.
