if this nasty-looking derivative term I've been hauling around as luggage turns out to be what I think it is then I have indeed managed to show that, for an incompressible isotropic material, a solution to the radial equilibrium equation generates a solution to the 3D equilibrium equations

...now if only I could actually figure out how to work through this awkward term...
