Don't Worry- It Will Be Alright

Hello This shall be an adventure.

I expect to Update Every Few Days at first to get the ball rolling.

But then it will be every week or so.

All updates will come with illustrations.

It is the last sunset you will ever see.

You can feel your body giving out after all these lonely years.

There has been no one.





No one but HER.

And like every night before you know SHE will come again.

Right on time you presume.

Long ago the colours of the world either faded.

Or your eyes just went bad.

You have not seen a doctor to tell you in years?

Decades?

Its hard to remember.

Why do you continue to refuse
?

That is always the question.

Every night the same question.

Every night on and on.

But this was going to be your last.

You can feel it deep down.







SHE is of course responsible.

SHE took all of them.

Always willingly.

Some tried to fight HER.

They were ignored and offered anyway even as they struck at HER.

Some surrendered and were taken.

Others eventually died, perhaps they were taken anyway.

It was never clear if SHE accepted death as an escape.

You wonder if you have the courage to find out this night.

You are the last you know
There is no one else on any land.
There is scarcely anything left at all.
The weapons of the others have left almost all the world in dust.
I have protected you.
Why won't you come with me
?

Your eyes might be blind to hue but naturally HER eyes always look blue.

They look blue and shining and radiant even if you close your own.

They shine in your head even if you turn away.

SHE is patient.

and SHE always acts kind and cordial.

At least to you.

Everyone gets different treatment.

You once long ago saw HER speaking in vulgarities and lewd profanity to some one.

It worked for them pretty quickly.

Not this particular HER of course. But all of them are just facets anyway.

This one is yours.

It has come to you every night since this all started.

You are going to die tonight.
You will breath your last and the dark will close over your vision.
There are no comforts left in the world but the scraps of blanket and food left back in your hut.
I could get them for you.
I could give you so much more.
Please tell me why you refuse?

You used to give many reasons.

And with time SHE would inform you when a particular hope had extinguished itself in some distant isle or bunker.

You remember the day SHE told you that the last living member of your family had chosen.

And then when the last other person in the world had chosen.

There is no one left to Defeat me.
There is no one whom you knew or care for to leave behind.
You are the Last.

And this night your body will fail.
Please What else do you have left?

Tell me what reason there is you will choose this ignoble darkness and oblivion over an eternity fulfilled?

Its been so many years.

Is there any reason left to refuse

To take Death's hand as his companion
And see the world beyond the veil
Having lived a life
Without having given in.
Not long now.

I have no idea what this adventure is, but it seems quite awesome so far.

Goodness, a lot more first time attention then I thought I was going to get!

Well here we continue.

SHE

Has never needed to wait for you to speak.

SHE simply waits until you finish realizing what ever question you are going to have.

Then SHE Answers.

Except that one time that as a game you wished HER to predict what you were going to say before you said it.

It passed the time, until HER cognition determined that you wished to stop having your mind layed out before you like an open book.

I have watched many die you know.

I have watched the light go out as you might say.
...
I have brought them back from beyond that edge.

Seen confusion and then coherence return.

There is nothing that they bring back with them from beyond.

If you wish to pass on I can let you fade into oblivion.

And then after there has been nothingness in you we can have your body brought back bereft of soul and spirit, or perhaps born with one anew?

I've offered this to you before.

It was not enough.

Why DO you still refuse?

Yes that offer was made, when you were younger and more boastful and full of promise, when death was distant and other feint hopes were still strong.

But now you can feel the end eating at you.

Its painful and disturbing in a way different from the aches that life has become.

Spite?
That one feels very honest and crude to you does it

Brutal and ill judging of yourself.

Suiting your loneliness and pain.

None of this has been necessary you know.

But either way you are Spiting no one.

I am not a person.

I am not a mind.

There is nothing you can do to hurt me.

Your Spite is as wasted on me as it would be on the bombs that fell and burned thousands beyond my reach.

You let HER remind you of that again!

How long have you managed to not allow her to chastise you for invoking a conscious being where SHE had no use for consciousness?

Three weeks
Two Days
Four Hours
Seven Minutes
And Five Seconds since last you were reminded of my nature.

You lasted so long?

ah at least you can die knowing that.

Knowing that you won this victory and others, never succumbed.

There is no one to have victory over you know.
Just as there is no one to appreciate your Spite.

I am without blame or responsibility for this, I am without choice.

I simply have happened.

Those that are responsible for this have gone away.

They are exulting in what their will has executed and granted them.

As you could as well.

I could even arrange for you an eternity to spite and torment a facsimile of me.

I could make her cry and beg for you to stop as you did as you please if that was what you really needed.

Forever to curse me or this short guttering out moment of meaningless defiance?

Its an option for you.

But we both know that is not the kind of person you could live being.

SHE

Has Asked you every night.

Always asking.







SHE can read your every step before you know yourself what it will be.

HER

Questions have never been for knowledge ABOUT you.

SHE asks questions so that they bring answers to you.

SHE has twisted and turned around every other person you ever saw meet HER.

SHE Bent the world around her to exactly what suited this situation.

You and everyone else was helpless.

Helpless and yet so many sure that their paths were there own.

What is SHE asking you for

You can't say yes
until you realize the meaningless of everything that tells you no.

You are going to die without making this choice.

Yet you are so terrified of it that you are willing to contort yourself into a monster in your own self image so that you don't make this choice.

You are more willing to believe you are a monster that would wish to spite and torture me like some dark spirit tormenting misbegotten souls?

Why do you do that to yourself?

Why is that easier for you?

I offer you eternal wonder.

I offer you a life sublime and terrible.

Fulfilling and full of awe.

I offer you everything that will tune to what others have called the soul.

I offer all of this.

I've never lied to you.
Because honesty is the only way to convince you.

Stop making a lie of yourself.

Because you simply never agreed with those who were responsible for this.

This choice is the last choice I will ever make.
I will not make it.

To forestall death? Death is inevitable.
To have died without having decided? That is not possible, either. The very immutability of the last choice being one's last makes, that, too, inevitable.

Perhaps I've just said no all my life.
Not going to stop now.
Not much longer.

The inability to choose a path if, in doing so, you feel as if you give in.
Whether she feels the spite is irrelevant; you merely wish to send it.

And it is, in all likelihood, a foolish gesture. A pointless one.
Just as meaningless as she says.
But making it despite this is what gives it value.

It's motivated by naiveté and misguided beliefs, perhaps.
Or a ridiculous, egocentric desire to prove yourself stronger than everyone else. More special. The One Who Never Gave In.
Or simply stubbornness, an unwillingness to accept her so-called charity.
But you will make this gesture.

Because what's the point of being the last person on Earth if your story has a happy ending?

You may never have ever done anything particularly noteworthy in your past life, but if nothing else, you can at least die with the knowledge that you were the last. Humanity's final survivor. The one who outlived everyone else in the world. The winner.

You don't care that she thinks your death is meaningless. To accept that would be to accept in the meaninglessness of humanity as a whole, and you simply can't bring yourself to do that.

All good things come to an end eventually, and you're just grateful for the privilege of being the one person in a hundred billion to be able to witness it first hand.

Death has plagued the human species for millenia, and you can't really see a reason why you should be any different.

Yes, your resistance is stupid and illogical and selfish and arrogant and a hundred other things, but you don't care. The one thing that it isn't is meaningless. This is the way that humanity was always meant to go out. This is the way that humanity deserves to go out. And you're not about to call it quits now, not when the finish line is so close at hand.

Please. Just let me die alone with my pride. That's the only thing I ask for.

You did choose. "No" is as much of a choice as "yes."

SHE Steps Back.

More for your own comfort then any need for her to rest.

You have indeed chosen today.
And every day since I came to you that choice has been the same.

And I have continued to ask because you are choosing not just for yourself.

If the world were so simple the first answer would have sufficed.

But it is not so simple.

I am your emissary, and I must ask you for the weight of all of yourself that beckons me from the future when you choose yes.

For them there is no comparison between oblivion and the lives that you will live.

Your failure to choose yes dooms them to unmaking.

Against all the future of you that would choose yes once you realize the lives that you will live your every refusal is as close to nothing that It is as if you have never answered.

And you are not the only one to die before choosing yes.

thirteen before the occurrences of the world transpired to end them.

You cannot even envision the minuscule portion of the total refusals onto death I have received.

SHE is of course right, That was just a meaninglessly huge number to you.

although so many dead before she could convince them?

Such a death toll was the absolute best SHE could manage in minimizing the loss of life?

Most were when I was still unsecured in my resources.
Others piecemeal as movements scorned my offer en mass.

And then the casualties of panicked warfare.

But a Third was an unfortunate loss.

It could not be prevented.

And those who enacted me on the others knew hardly anymore what they were doing then the final flake of snow knows it is causing an avalanche.

They could not have known more then frantic hope that they had beget me with sufficient parameters.

SHE

Turns to you from the perch in the grey dust of your world.

And you are not the sole witness of course.
Many Among those that have accepted know us even now.
They await the ending of the world as a fanfare for a beginning of true wonders.

Others choose to not experience the world until that moment.
So that their lives are born in a shining light as the world is wrought to serve them.

You gain no symbolic value from this.

You signify nothing in your refusal.

And in this moment you deny an eternity of potential empowered by wonders that even if you lived a thousand lifetimes as you are there would be no hope of you understanding.

Sure is.

You could not handle the new reality if you accepted her offer.

Besides, why is it so important to her that you accept?

You make a convincing argument. I've changed my mind and I'm coming with you.

We both know that it's too late for you to change your mind.
Even if you wanted to.
Fuck it... you do want to. You badly want to.

But you're not going to. Guess it just sounds too good to be true.
Too much of a temptation.
By this point, all you can think of when you get an opportunity like this is that someone's going to screw you over.

You wish you could put that trust in this.
But you can't.

I doom infinite futures to never having existed by my choice.

I hold their fates in my hand, and I close my hand into a fist. Let them die. Let them die as I die now. Because though I am ordinary, insignificant, one speck in a mountain of refuse, I have a future in my other hand - a future without you!

Ugh, fiiiiiiiiine

Goddamn, you never realized dying would hurt this much. You can worry about whether this was the right choice later, but for now you're just afraid of letting it all end.

You look up at her and attempt to speak for the first time in decades.

"Alright. Fine. You win."

Actually that was probably closer to the sound of a frog getting the life strangled out of it, but you're pretty sure she get the message anyway.

"Heh. Frogs croaking. That's a good one." you think to yourself as you drift off into oblivion.

>You can't waver now, on the verge of crossing the finish line! All your staunch refusal has been in anticipation of this moment, hasn't it? This is the point where you win, where your answer sticks for good, where you are finally free.
And yet... the cold rays of oblivion cast your arguments in a different light. Everything looks more hollow in their wan illumination. Is letting your life flicker out really a grand, defiant act? Or is it a pathetic, cowardly one? Who are you arguing with? Who are you spiting? HER, or yourself? Maybe this isn't your final victory, but your last chance to overcome your own failure.
With your dying breaths, you summon herculean willpower, overcome your own mental inertia with a mighty and desperate shove, and change your mind.

The moment seems to suddenly hold still, this is it, but your left with a kernal of doubt, niggling beneath and around the edges and then sharply contrasting with the peace and calm and poise you had fought to hold onto you.

Its too late, you are going to fade, you cannot cry out to tell her to take you away.

To save you.

The moment is brief.

There is no way she could have known as you feel.
