Roast Quest

You are Lil' Critter, and you've had enough grass to last a lifetime. You're looking for something with a little more kick to it. Something with spice. Something with some real meat. You want to become a Carnivore.

A few obstacles are standing in front of your meat-based goals. You've compiled them in your Critter Brainzone. Firstly, you have no clue where to find meat - where does it grow? Secondly, you have no way to catch meat - biological or otherwise. Thirdly, you have no effective way to chew meat - you'll need to make sure it's cut into small pieces first. But of course, these setbacks can't stop you!

What will you do to acquire your first piece of meat?

You take a hearty whiff of the air, hoping to collect some protein particles.
You can feel dust settling within your stomach!
Could this powdery rush be the taste of meat? You hope so.

It's a start!

You eye the meat beetle dubiously.
Could it hurt you? Could you die?



You sniff it a little. It doesn't seem like it poses a threat.
You're going to eat it in the name of science!

You send the meat beetle down the hatch.

You've unlocked one mutation point.



You've heard about mutation points before! Carnivores use them to grow new body parts, enhance the old ones, and generally crush the competition. Of course, you're just Lil' Critter. You don't know if mutations will have the full effect. You don't know if they work at all!

There's no need! You have an eye right smack dab on the side of your head. You've got skin flaps to protect it from the elements.

> Give yourself some poisonous properties.

> Give yourself some teeth.

You aim for the best of both worlds - your fangs drip with a slow-acting paralytic venom.
You'll probably need more mutations to increase its potency, though.

You've probably hunted all you can in this location. The other meat beetles seem to have scurried off.
In response, you pull open your brainzone's island map.



You haven't seen much of the world yet, but on your southern travels with Mama Critter, you encountered vast swathes of sand. She called them beaches - and advised you to stay away. To the north is the mainland. You've heard massive carnivore settlements called cities exist farther north. You could also explore more of the forest if you feel like you need more protein.

Where should you go, and why?

Beaches are littered with rocks, underneath which slow and crawling things live that you might EAT

go even further... seek out the mythical 'seafood'. go into the ocean

Surely we can overtake any dangers we find at the beach with our newfound fangs

You arrive at the beach. The air is salty and fresh.

Tiny creatures with sharp-looking appendages skitter around.

You wade in the water. It feels warm, tingly.

You could get used to this!

You knock your head against the rock.
It doesn't move...
Maybe you should go after the sharp-looking beasts. You've never been in a fight, and you're a bit scared, but you haven't gotten this far by giving up.

Should you approach the sharp ones? If so, what should your tactic be?

Their meat is somewhat guarded and your fangs likely cannot pierce their brittle torso to inflict grievous wounds

(I assume the sharp ones are curstacean like from their placement, name and general appearance and thus have a shall and all but that's an assumption. With the degree of detail we have, for all we know they're just actualy could be soft red balls with pointy legs. Probaly shouldnt assume that all lifefroms here are earth like.)
