oh great it's gimp! now how will i get a tablet that is compatible with it's pressure sensitivity??? if only i could know before i guy rather than after when it's too late

once i tried a bamboo and i didn't like it at all. but that was a long time ago and i was a super n00b

I also recommend paint tool Sai, it's more digital-painting-dedicated than GIMP or photoshop (and thus significantly pared back without filters or the like) but it does pretty good draws

if anyone wants to use gimp but has a tablet (e.g. monoprice and wacom) that doesn't work with it, give me a shout. I have a copy of the 2.6 installer here and that version works fine.
They're /apparently/ going to add support for those tablets in 2.10 but honestly that will probably take 10 years.

Christ yes to the bamboos. If the pen hadn't died on mine + the pens for that model weren't in production anymore I'd still be using it.

I have a graphire (bamboo before it became bamboo) and i've had it since i was 15? So a good 8 years. Still has the original pen, functions fine apart from the scroll wheel breaking a few years back and drivers and photoshop having a longstanding feud. I'm pretty pleased with it tbh. (wouldn;t mind getting a newer one that was designed when windows 7+ was a thing though).

Most people here are talking about graphics tablets, which are a peripheral device you plug into a computer.

If it's your main computing device (perhaps because you're not financially independent and it was given to you) and you can't afford a desktop/laptop and drawing equipment like a graphics tablet on top of that?
