Although that might give you bad feelings about your state :x

Emerge slowly from the ocean, head facing down. Ignore whatever they say and just act like you're warming yourself at the fire.

You get an idea. You know just how to turn yourself into a watery demon. You're going to imitate one of those scary ghost girls that are in those movies mom never let you watch, but you saw when you went to a sleepover at a friend's house.

It was a pretty scary movie.

So you take advantage of your lack of a physical body, and slip through the sand...

...and rise from the ocean very near the party...

...and invite yourself to the warmth of the bonfire. Out of the corner of your eyes, you can see everyone is staring and slowly shuffling away, so it must be working!

...But then that girl confronts you, holding a paper seal and a giant maple leaf. Homemade ghost-dispelling equipment.

"Leave us, spirit. We have done you no wrong."

Well, what are you gonna do?

Chill, man. You guys are having a party by my waters. I thought I could just crash here for a bit.

RE: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Can you touch the tag without being dispelled? Because if you can do so (or, for that matter, trick her into throwing it into the bonfire herself), you can burn it and the leaf up, making the whole thing moot.

Unless they're SUPPOSED to go in the bonfire, in which case the best course of action is probably just to be all "you have done me no wrong, so I shall do you no harm; I am a good spirit blah de bloo de blorp"

RE: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
"No, you haven't! ...yet."

Then be all mysterious!
#37
RE: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
"I've done no wrong either," you retort.
#38
RE: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
"I mean no harm. I am just lonely and cold."

HEY GUYS HOW MUCH DO YOU LIKE KETCHUP AND MUSTARD BACKGROUNDS

You tell them you've done no wrong to them either. You just want to warm up by the fire. The ocean's been very cold, after all.

The girl flinches.

"Spirit, we are sorry, but you don't belong here. You have to leave."

She starts to draw closer to you, preparing to throw the seal.

So naturally, you panic a little bit and float into the fire. Doesn't hurt, and now she can't touch you, but now the flames are preventing you from seeing anything.

"Amy, please come out of the bonfire. You have to let me help you. Forgive your mother, and stop this vengeful afterlife."

Wait, how does she know about that?!
hahaha i wasted my time on all of you for 8 years.

"IT'S VERY RUDE TO ASSUME I'M FEELING VENGEFUL. I TAKE OFFENSE TO THAT!"

RE: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Haha, what? Vengeance? What a hilarious misunderstanding!

You just wanted to swim in the ocean with the fishes. You always really wanted to play in the ocean, but your mother wouldn't let you. For your health of course; you could catch pneumonia. Now that you're a ghost, you're not so concerned about that. Yes. That is why you're here.

>I guess we'd better keep going. At this rate, they'll really banish you and oh wouldn't that be a pain. Dive through the sand and pop up a half-mile down.

RE: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Why would I have vengeance for the one who gave me life?
#45
RE: The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
"Who the hell is Amy, why are you assuming I'm seeking vengeance, you are a creepy little girl. I'm going back to the fishes. At least they understaaaaaand me"

Flee into ocean.
