I had a friend in high school who made earrings from the ends of a Cat 5 cable. I’ll admit that was interesting.

But for the most part piercings kind of disturb me, even the tame ones.

Got into the last ten minutes of a class with the rather rowdy 1st year Machinery. The practice dialogue went "What do you think of ______", followed by "I like it" or "I like _____ better", then asking "why" and getting "I think that it's <adjective>" in response. My prior lesson with them had been talking about World Heritage sites, so they had an easy and relevant set of vocab lists to pull ideas from.

They got the idea a lot quicker than my other classes, so I pointed out they could use the format to ask about things that weren't World Heritage sites. Cue "What do you think of this guy sitting next to us".

When I picked volunteers out to demonstrate with me in front of the class, I started asking about types of food, which was how one kid claimed he liked natto because it was "beautiful".



My JTE reckoned that was the first time she's ever heard anyone describe natto as beautiful, in Japanese or English.

Natto was described to me by my Japanese host sister as being like snot. She wasnt wrong

Nattō ranching is one of the least regarded professions known. Little or no skill is required, once you've got a planet with the right climate.

I have put together one of these before. Despite being made of cheap printer paper and off-brand white glue, it yet stands.

Well, fuck.

U.S. government doesn't understand how the internet works, willing to cave in to corporate interests, in a related case water has been ruled wet.

Frankly I'm just surprised it took this long to happen.

U.S. government kind of made the Internet happen. And in part by getting super-extra-chummy with AT&T, so. Mixed bag.

The details of the ruling are a bit more ambiguous (disregard the dumb click-grabbing headline) than some people are making it seem, but yeah, this sucks.
