Atlantic Rim - The Fifth Head
04-30-2016, 03:37 PM
(This post was last modified: 04-16-2017, 01:09 AM by Lieutenant Fish.)
The neo-fantasy horrornoir cyberthriller, created by Lieutenant Fish with a little help from someone named you, the reader!
Swords, sea monsters, stuffed crusts, and stock photos!
Demons, diamonds, and debacles!
Rivalry and radioactivity!
Swords, again!
Like the huguenots of yore, Atlantic Rim has fled its original home and sought refuge in more welcoming lands. Please bear with me here as we all adjust to the shift. Expect this introductory post to change and expand and improve dramatically over the next few days. For now, though, let's get caught up on the story.
New readers, or current readers interested in re-reading Atlantic Rim in full, should check out the official mirror! It was created by the totally great computer wizard / lizard wizard known as Mraof. However, what with starting afresh in an entirely new forum and all, I've picked out some panels from chapters one and two for a fun little summary.

SpoilerHydrus Scopuli, AKA Delta Vephar
The Hydrus Scopuli is a demon you’re probably already familiar with. This terrible engine of malice and destruction roamed the Deep Cosmos for eons, tirelessly seeking out, synthesizing, or distributing every form of poison in the known universe. Perhaps it did this in order to increase the power of its Cosmic Hellabyte, Lykoktonon, or perhaps it was driven by the file itself. There is no way to be sure of its motives or intentions, as Hydrus Scopuli neglected to respond to summons from even the most powerful among demonkind, and was generally left to its own devices. The sole exception was Samigina, who seemed to have brokered some sort of allegiance. Its ancient quest eventually led it to the contested planet Earth, where it paid the ultimate price for its misdeeds at the hands of a mysterious swordsman.
Samigina, AKA Ultra Gamygin
A demon whose motives are as mysterious and inscrutable as the corporeal forms it chooses to wear. Samigina was involved in the initial movement to invade the planet Earth, sending his legions and allies into the fray for some time before entering the battle himself just prior to the arrival of the Hydrus Scopuli. Reports on the following events are sketchy, but it appears that Samigina sacrificed his physical body to the ravenous gullet of his poisonous colleague, in a scheme that backfired horribly when the latter was slain in battle. Samigina has not been heard from since, but is no doubt sequestered in some secret corner of the cosmos, building a new body and contemplating vengeance.
Quorraba the Merciless
Untold billions throughout existence could tell you just how well-deserving Quorraba the Merciless is of his title, if, paradoxically, he wasn’t. Already a seasoned veteran of combat and command, this relatively young demon lord handles the conquest side of the rapidly-growing empire he shares with his twin sister, Asmoday. The two of them have been causing quite a stir in the Outer Systems, but it is Quorraba who runs the greatest risk. If he doesn’t find a fitting opponent to prove himself against before enough of his enemies unite, all of the violence he has inflicted upon the universe will become undone and his legacy will amount to nothing. Rumors have already reached his ears of a besieged backwater planet, and the unexpectedly powerful warrior protecting it…
Buerne
A sleazy and predictably avaricious demon lord, Buerne has had a stake in every scheme, coup, and heist in unliving memory. Furthermore, he is known for always receiving a substantial return on his investments, one way or another, and prides himself on the fact that not a single being has ever survived double-crossing him. His connections span the length, breadth, and height of reality, and his palaces overflow with riches and metaphysical curiosities. He’s always been one to jump at the chance to shake things up and involve himself in the latest scandal, but there’s no telling how he’ll react to the recent demise of the Hydrus Scopuli.

SpoilerSpecial thanks to Mraof for creating the current mirror; to Dalmationer for starting the fanmonster thread, twice; to Chwoka for that one time we updated each other's adventures as a joke and even though I made him stick to a script for Atlantic Rim it was still a lot of fun and I love what he did with it; to RobotMoxie for staunchly using a panel from Chapter One as an all-purpose reaction image, please keep doing that; to all my readers and fans, I love you guys, keep making crazy stuff for the fanmonster thread; speaking of which, let's take a look at those. . .
The Dadopus was created by Monkeysky
The Cenhipposnakemanbearmantaur and the Drillspider were created by Dalmationer

Ask what happened, but also check for camera footage leading up to the incident.

That's the ownership pie chart of the Cosmic Hellabyte. The "Succession Queue". Based on Jolene's unexpectedly majority share, it is NOT stable. That is a problem.
