Lost at Sea

I had an activity in my Teachers' College class today that I thought would be fun to share with you guys!

Instructions

1. Read the following scenario, then rank the 15 items in order of their importance to your survival, where 1 is the most important and 15 is the least.
   Post your answer in a reply, in spoiler tags!
   
2. Step 2 happens after everyone posts their lists!

You are adrift on a private yacht in the South Pacific Ocean when a fire destroys the yacht and most of its contents.

You and four other survivors are now in a large raft with oars. Your location is unclear, but you estimate that you are about 1000 nautical miles south-south west of the nearest land.

One person has just found in their pockets five $10 notes and a cigarette lighter. Everyone else's pockets are empty.

map is okay i guess but the sextant probably won't give you a good enough guess for your location so a mental map would probably work just as well
black plastic might work as shelter from the sun in a pinch, though it would also be really hot

bad useless things:
oil+gas: cooking with that could poison you
fishing kit: raw fish could poison you
rum + chocolate: will make you thirstier
shark repellent: really unnecessary

I'm no survival expert, and have never been on the ocean, but here's my thoughts:

SpoilerVital Survival Stuff:
1) 22 liters of water (Dehydration is the biggest worry. Drinking pee works at most once, in an emergency, I think.)
2) 2 square meters of black plastic (Keeps the sun off, and keeps heat in at night. Catch rainwater.)
3) 5 meters of nylon rope (Secure black plastic, which is very important. Useful on land)

Communications and Rescue:
4) Shaving mirror (Visual signalling)
5) Small transistor radio (Alert folks to your existence for rescue, hear if others are near)
6) Maps of Pacific Ocean (helps with rough sun-based navigation)
7) Sextant (Ideally with instructions? Could tell rescuers where you are, or find an island)

Improve Survival Chances:
8) 1 litre 20-proof rum (Disinfecting wounds, water, etc)
9) 24 chocolate bars (Easier to ration out. More calories than a survival meal)
10) 1 survival meal (Still got a lot of calories)
11) Fishing kit (Not a guarantee of food, but could help, esp if you find an island.)
12) Mosquito netting (Near-surface fishing? Keep bugs off near land?)
13) Floatable seat cushion (emergency float?)
14) 9 liters oil-petrol mix (Signal fire? Probably not good for cooking)
15) Shark repellent (Basically useless. This is not Batman)

Ok! Now you're all gonna argue and try reach a consensus about a final top 15. Do this on discord or wherever you like!

1000 nautical miles is 1852 km
And apparently fastest rowing is ~7 km/h
264 hours of rowing
Just isn't going to happen with our supply options
(Assuming we know where to row)

I think that reaching land is not possible, and rescue is thus the priority

We reached a top 3 item consensus on Discord. I left, but maybe they're nailing down #4 at this very moment!
