definitely blue the flytrap,
plant another flytrap and plant more clovettes
Standing here, The way ahead's becoming clear
All across these new frontiers
In my hands I hold the ones I love
Walk forward through the cold dawn
Always to new horizons

I don't trust the flysnap to not try and eat a clovette with a gold dose, one clovette is currently shaking, and the other is our clovette control. So, flysnap dosing it is. (09-20-2018, 09:51 AM)Solaris Wrote: »definitely blue the flytrap,

make another pool (or several) to use as a control, and restrict access to the contaminated pool until we activate another clovette to test it on.

Not only is this just a plain bad idea, you’re pretty certain it wouldn’t work, anyway. You installed expensive and rare White crystals into the base of the Playground, which makes the mutation effects of the extracts unable to spread beyond what the extracts would apply to. If you hadn’t done that, the extracts would mutate the Playground itself, as well as muddying your tests by making any application of extract affect all creatures in the Playground.
You may make another Playground sometime to specifically test the time it takes for mutated environments to affect the creatures living in them, but that’s for later.

And THIS is an even worse idea. Obviously, you’d mutate, and that would carry with it the possibility of your mental functions and personality changing, as well as social stigmas.
Not that you haven’t put previous thought into what colors of mutations would actually be pretty cool, though.
Anyway. You’re dilly-dallying. You decide to add a single dose of Blue extract to the Flysnap, leaving you with 9 doses of Blue extract.
It takes longer this time, nearly 30 minutes, for the effects of the extract to fully take place:
The Flysnap is now a teal hue, and has developed thorns. It also seems to have become a bit more aggressive, snapping at the Clovettes when they get too close. The Clovettes are now keeping their distance, as the Flysnap cannot chase them.
Well, now you’ve run out of test subjects for a moment -- you just noticed it’s been over an hour since you sent out your assistant.
You call them up to ask how the errand is going.
They it’s going mostly well, they found most of the stuff on the list you gave them… but they can’t find everything, and the market is kind of crowded…
You tell them it’s okay if they have to make more than one trip, and to remember to get the mail on their way back, and then you end the call.
A small alarm buzzes from the other room - another Flysnap is ready.

This seems like a great idea! Upvote. Also, could we plant a seed in here with an extract being used as it's water supply for it to grow? Maybe something interesting might happen?

You decide to retrieve the new flysnap from the garden, and place it in the Playground, very near the first flysnap. Not too close, though, since the first flysnap is aggressive.
As soon as you place the new flysnap in the enclosure, you apply a dose of Blue extract to it and wait for 30 minutes…
And now you have two Blue, aggressive thorny flysnaps.
Now, it’s time to run two quick tests on these subjects.
You apply Gold extract to the first one, and Green extract to the second. You set your timer for 30 minutes again, writing down notes and checking on the saplings while you wait.
… huh. The first flysnap reverted back to normal - this, you expected to happen - but the second flysnap has retained the effects of the Blue extract while gaining the effects of the Green, growing longer vines and more leaves.
This… both simplifies, and complicates, things. You were hoping that applying two colors to a subject would, somehow, result in the effects of a color of magic you don’t have the extracts of yet… but instead, it simply resulted in both extracts working, as long as they are of colors that don’t cancel each other out.
In order to see the effects of the other colors of extract, you’ll have to make them yourself the way you made your current extracts: by drawing them out of plants that are heavily imbued with those magics… which, you don’t have yet.
As you note all this down, you hear a bunch of small alarms going off in your garden. It seems like you can now use one Clovette, one Flysnap, and two Algea Urchins.

To recap:
Blue & Green: combo
Blue & Gold: cancel
Based on their positions on the color wheel let's make an assumption that Green combos with Gold, and Gold with Red. This would mean that for each color there's two others that combo with it, and one that cancels out. If true, this wold mean that Blue combos with Red.
>Let's try out the combinations to verify if they work as assumed. Try Blue & Red, Green & Gold, and Gold & Red. Reset the flysnaps with cancelling colors between the experiments.

While you place a single Urchin into the little pool in the Playground, you observe the two Flysnaps for a minute. Indeed, the first Flysnap has stopped being aggressive, and now it seems to be a bit intimidated by the second. You decide to push the second one a bit further away.
You figure you’ll run a quick test on the first Flysnap again, to test the combination of the other two colors, so you add a dose of Gold extract to it and wait…
It seems the Gold extract has made the coloration of this Flysnap much more vivid, and has improved its mood… how, exactly, is unknown, but the Flysnap wiggles and lolls around. Strange.
You add a dose of Red to it now, setting your timer…
And after 30 minutes, the change has taken effect: the Flysnap’s coloration has dulled a bit, but still warmer in hue than usual. More strikingly, the Flysnap is wilting and sickly, but no less strangely happy than it was a half hour ago.
You consider turning this Flysnap back to normal by applying more extracts, but after closer observation, you recognize the Flysnap is shaking in the same way the first Clovette had been after two stronger doses before. You probably shouldn’t apply more than 4 weak doses in a day to these creatures.
You’re trying to ignore how long it’s been since you called your assistant. These tests are taking longer than you thought.
