I'd love to be able to just tinker with it occasionally, but if timeliness/high access levels are an issue, it's probably best you just stick with Spoids.
A private fork, like CSJ suggested, would be great since multiple people could help here and there, but we'd have to make sure there weren't any security issues -- either with what's available on the fork, or with what changes people made.
