256. 4^4. 16*16. (2^2)^(2^2). 8^y.
The near-holiest, most symmetrical of numbers, second only to 2 itself. Despite the asymmetry of log2(log2(256)) = 3, it remains more beautiful than 2 for the same reason the imperfect Mandelbrot set remains more beautiful than the circle. Written on paper, 256 is a decadent blend of deep blue and forest green with a sheen of red-orange on the edges, to add flair. A tesseract, the hypercube of four dimensions, with side lengths of four, has a hypervolume of 256 unit tesseracts.
