RE: Subforum Ideas Topic: The Quorum Quorner
Alright, I'm gonna own up and say that expressing my personal disappointment as a reason for locking the thread was unnecessary and shit-starty.

If we could get serious-but-still-teamfriendly for a bit, I'd like to discuss a Good Post by Wheat from that thread:

this is what I want, but more in general having an agreement on not continuing with any sort of arguments in the future. like the minimum number of arguments in total, for the whole community

political things will be getting probably more intense for the next year and i think we should head it off by agreeing on like some kind of balance of what degree and kind of political conversation is good and what's too much; where it should go, etc and so on

should there be a general politics thread on hawkspace or in the general forum where people are encouraged to do current political events or just go with the current setup? should this be like, a general agreement or maybe just an agreement for a moratorium on any political discussion between loather and me (bc obviously i don't think anything productive or enjoyable will ever happen when the two of us discuss political things at the least)

not talking about establishing rules, but guidelines to lessen the likeliood of not-fun things from happening in the future

I was toying with the idea of a Politics thread in Gen Chat months and months back, but decided not to because I foresaw it quickly becoming inaccessible and regarded as "toxic" by non-regulars to that thread. It would've been needlessly stressful for me to moderate, and I always feel weird about making decisions about Forumnular Conduct.

A place where people can non-judgementally ask questions like "what else will I vote for, other than presidential nominees, when I go to the polling booth" or "what's "socialism" and how do the dictionary/academics/lay people/newsmen differ in their use of the term" or "my state party sucks at explaining who I can vote for for downticket stuff, can you help me find out" would be a really good thing.

Ideally, it's a space that caters not to PolChat Regulars (people who know enough to debate the merits of different political platforms), but for folks not up ins on the Big Complicated Mess that is their political system and want to get more informed.

Rules of engagement for folks keen to debate political theory are definitely needed though. I as a mod would not set or enforce rules regarding individual Users because I'd want to trust the folks in question to know themselves and each other well enough to keep the community pleasant for everyone else.
