It's not a kid with a shotgun because it's not killing people by accident. Remember when we overheard Gregor? He was convinced to kill: The botfly told him that it's okay for him to murder because it's never going to have happened. It understands that much of the situation.

In the crop of Derleth stories (written in posthumous collaboration with Lovecraft) from The Watcher Out of Time, it's always the hapless investigator who gets eaten by the Slurping Horror - but then by some lame coincidence the thing is unable to fully enter our dimension, or it gets banished somehow. The world goes on normally, and no-one would have ever known, if the hero's final frantic journal hadn't been discovered in a dilapidated shack out in the boonies.

Actually, that might be a best-case scenario here.

Write everything down in a frantic disjointed journal and stash it under the floorboards of a backwoods cabin; that's an essential step if you want any hope of success.

When you're feeling as directionless as Amie is, getting caught up in some kind of narrative that's consistent only until someone looks at it from the outside is kind of understandable.

It seems like if anybody were to take Amie's side, it would be Emmie. He seemed the most curious about the botfly after exposure. I'm kind of surprised he hasn't tried to look at the unlight again.

He is very level headed and used to trusting what the experts have to say, but I wonder if Amie's outburst hasn't reignited his curiosity.
