You were a Lieutenant in the Imperial Guard. You are now a Colonel. The transport chartered to deliver you to your new post is cold and uncomfortable. This is probably because it is also a freighter delivering cargo. It is the only freighter that visits this planet. The last delivery was twenty years ago, thanks to a clerical error. This clerical error also resulted in the planet being lost for all intents and purposes.

You have in your possession a rucksack containing the following:
One uniform
One set of poor weather gear
One laspistol and two charge packs
One knife
One flak vest
One combi-tool
One mess kit, two eating utensils and one water canteen
One blanket and one sleep bag
One rechargeable lamp pack
One grooming kit
One set of cognomen tags
One copy of the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer
One letter of commission and associated papers and forms from the Administratum
Two bottles of quality amasec

You also have a small, locked chest of personal belongings.

The freighter is due to arrive in a few days. You have no duties onboard the ship and are free to move around, for the most part. There was something you had planned, but you forgot about it after bumping your head against the bulkhead a moment ago. Your head is sore.

What will you do?

Quiet. Good for an unusual opinion. Doesn't talk much.

You hit yourself with the Primer, in frustration. You now have an additional bruise and it hurts like buggery.

Great job making things worse, smarty!

You'll need to leave the room to find some ice. You might be able to get some in the mess hall. Alternatively, there's the medicae room.

You turn the Primer to a random page, page 12 to be precise. There is an image of a rather outlandish mutant. You know enough about mutants to know they're usually a lot less subtle than having menacing needle-like teeth and a second head emerging from the neck, fringed with tentacles.

It may be trashy in parts, but most of the equipment sections are perfectly helpful. For a fresh recruit at least.

You quickly flip through to the prayers at the back of the Primer and recite the Prayer of Adulation.
"O Immortal Emperor: have mercy upon us, miserable unworthies that we are.
O Master of the Galaxy: Protect your flock from the alien.
O Keeper of the Light: Guide our darkened path with Your radiance

We are your warriors and we are servants to Thee,
W stand free from blindness of heart,
Free from hypocrisy, vainglory and deceits,
But captive to hatred, malice and anger,
To the filth, the alien, the heretic.

By Thy agony and bloody sweat; by The Golden Throne and Thy Death,
By the destruction and re-emergence as the god of men,
Keep and strengthen us, we who fight for Thee."

There are no Xeno scum on-board that you know of and the only person that's heretical is probably the Rogue Trader whose ship you're on. Personally, you're not one to pick fights with Rogue Traders when the likely outcome is being vented into space.

Fortunately, the planet you're heading for is full of Xenos creatures. Unfortunately, said creatures are incredibly deadly killing machines. That said, it's always a good idea to check the lower decks for stowaways.

Ah, yes. You're not quite at the armchair general ranks yet, but you're close. It would be nice to not be shot at all the time.

Your lack of passion may have been one of the things that got you reassigned, now that you look back at it. From what you can recall through the pain of your head bumps, the other commanders didn't like your cautious attitude. The Scintillans seemed incredibly keen to have your company tossed forward while they stood back and 'guarded the rear'. You know better than to let them get away with that, especially when they're in charge of fire support. Backstabbers, the lot of them.

Ugh, getting mad at the Fusiliers again isn't helping. Maybe you really should duck into medicae after all.

Are you sure you wanna go down the route of too much divided focus? I think it could take a real toll on you, if you aren't careful enough.

They both tell the same story, so it shouldn't be a problem right now. If it becomes one, there are ways to manage it without resorting to dropping one. I'll make a call when/if I have to. Work for one adventure branch helps the other.

Go on then, off to the medicae with you.
Maybe you'll get lucky, and they'll offer a bit extra for the schmuck about to be stationed on some miserable forgotten planet.
