Sleep debt

The forefront of medical technology, they call it. I call it an easy buck, or if I'm really getting it hammered home that money can't buy happiness, I like to think I'm giving some old woman recovering from her triple bypass a good evening's bedrest.
Course, I've gotta be realistic. Time's money, and my time goes to the highest bidder. If the government won't supplement its hospitals with sleep, at least for the prices fetched by men in cities that never, that's not my fault. Thousands of skint students like me waking up to a better futures. Works great for me, being able to cope on three hours a night if you give an afternoon nap. Keeps me in pocket

I don't know how these things work - I'd have to be a med student or something, in which case I wouldn't have time and its respective money now. No, they're all working toward a better future, where they can cut open greasy old men and unclog their fatuous hearts. I know they do it. The above was one of the weirder scrawlings I found in a lecture notebook off about two years back*. It's incomplete and confusing because I copied it verbatim off the page, and it's the only reference to this society where sleep is a trade-able commodity, most often hocked of by students like the narrator. I have no recollection of this setting or what I was planning to do with it, but it might've been during my dystopian fiction bent???

I guess now that I've gone and made this thread, I've got a place to stash other inane witterings I end up being responsible for? I dunno.

*This included some half-written drafts of GBS2+GBII posts, some kind of exposition about a Grandmaster I was thinking of using who wasn't the Hermit and is more like an anti-Wordsmith, and at least one draft of a letter to a friend. Oh, and actual lecture notes. They were patchy but I seemed to actually do a passable job at it about half the time I did show up.
