Pokémon Showdown: The Eagledome
Do you like pokemon? We sure do! Using today's latest and greatest advances in telepresence and highly-legal game emulation, you can ditch those smelly losers you play pokemon with in real life in favor of some different smelly losers on the internet! Why not poke some mons with your virtual pals? Sign up today!

Pokemon Showdown is site that allows users to build teams to their specifications and pit them against each other, or to use randomized teams in random battles, or even enjoy the monthly "seasonal" metagame. It's a fun way to try out interesting and different strategies without tedious breeding, and lets you play with people you otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to. But you all probably knew all that already, given how much we talk about pokemon in general and showdown specifically on the IRC. So why am I making this thread?

I thought it'd be fun to catalogue who on the forum plays and what teams they've got and types of battles they like; it'll make it easier to find someone to play with, match up with other similarly-minded eaglites, and get opinions on strategy and build. Plus, we could even occasionally run Eagle Time tournaments with whatever criteria sound like fun! I'll try to keep this OP updated as people post and stuff happens or even the needs of the thread change, but before I can do that, you've gotta get postin'.

Uh, Superfreq, are we allowed to be discussing über teams in here? Shouldn't it just be restricted to OU and below?

Ahhhh, the best thread!

I have my poison mono team up there which has to be OU because of a few particular members, but it's largely still built around gen 4 and needs some tweaking. Still up for battles whenever though!

Uber is a tier with rules and its own metagame though, not a list of things never to use. Why restrict it to OU and below?

I want to make some more mono teams. Mono teams are fun. I had a trick room team halfway done at one point too... hmm.

I'll take the case!

This thread also can serve as a handy place to post replays of inter-eagle battles if we like.

Haha, meee neither, really. I know there are a few of us who have, but I think for the most part the skill level is overall slightly-serious-casual.

Also, to anyone who wants me to add them to the OP: it would be helpful if you gave me the name and tier of your teams, just so I can organize them properly and other people can find appropriate opponents more easily.

RE: Pokémon Showdown: The Eagledome
Back when HG/SS came out there were enough of my friends with the game that we actually managed to hold our own little tournament. I think I got 5th out of 11, being thoroughly trounced by the dudes with competition teams and one chick who managed to escape my deadly Marowak with a Flying type (knew I should've taught him Thunderpunch)

Anyways, I'm game for a little casual battling. Lemme go hunt down the stats from my team and I'll load them up.

Battle time!

I like to run a Mono-bug team starring Durant and a Bounce-Pass team starring Espeon.

Haha okay little cup teams are just ridiculously fun to build, I think I'm addicted.

I also should mention I'm basically always up for the frenetic fun of a randbat; hit me up here or on IRC if you're ever in the mood.

Hahaha yesss this is the thread for me (as Slorange knew well in advance)

I have a super-boring Little Cup Team, OU Mono-Flying and Mono-dark teams, and I'm working on something special/awful for RU right now.

I am totally ready for battling.

I have three OU-ish teams, an RU team, one misc. team I used for a specific fight on this very forum, and I'm always throwing together new things. Ping me on IRC or on Showdown itself if you want to battle.

RE: Pokémon Showdown: The Eagledome
I introduced competitive poke battles to a friend a long time ago and we only played like once or twice, he's been nagging me to play with him ever since, I guess I could use this as an excuse to build a team and shut him up.

I've been out of the loop since platinum so I guess I'm gonna have to do a little research first, I wanna try UU/NU.

I may be up for some random battles at some point. I made like two dozen different teams on the old Pokémon Online thing, and I have a favourite team I'd like to play again, but that was all under 4th Gen rules so I may be horribly out of date by this point.

Well that's only if you go super tournament serious final destination, i just care about kicking ass with the 'mons i like.

RE: Pokémon Showdown: The Eagledome
It's not all meta, though. I've used literally the same team with the same moves and EV layout dozens of times with the same person so she knows exactly what to expect and I've still come up on top due to good read of her as a person and good planning. It's definitely a very different game from normal Pokémon so it takes a bit to learn, but in casual online battling it isn't all about meta team builds.

RE: Pokémon Showdown: The Eagledome
Anyone who's just larriking around with friends knows that the real fun's taking something barely semi-viable the you like, like Tropius, and figuring out how to make it work 7 times out of 10.

If you give yourself a particular specification for a team (a particular type; a particular tier) you're going to have a limited set of potential pokemon to work with, so then it's just personal preference that dictates the "best" team you can make from that limited set.

Personally I like randbats because all the Pokemon in it run "viable" sets that they've most commonly used in their various tiers, but then (attempts to) balance it with tiered levelling. It's good revision for what any given pokemon in any given match is likely to be packing, and eventually you learn that switching your flying/grass type in on a water type is almost always an ice beam away from suicide.

RE: Pokémon Showdown: The Eagledome
BestTeaMaker's baton pass team gave my monotype dark team a run for my money. With some tweaking it'll wreck my shit, considering his finisher was a Stored Power Espeon.

I wanted to mention but you went off IRC, so: why not Suction Cups Octillery to finish? It's stats are lousy, but it's got solid multitype special coverage (including STAB Water Spout fuck yeah). Cradily is another Suction Cups user - also hella slow but it has Curse and Recover as fun options.

Also you should try out some Quiver Dance with Masquerain (hahahahahahaha) or Venomoth. Volcarona might work as a finisher (that also has Calm Mind!) if you could stand to keep Smeargle with Ingrain on the team.

Okay, I've done a team, which I like to call "Whaddaya mean, Rarely Used?". No points for guessing what tier.

EDIT: And an OU Joke team. I'm not telling you how to defeat it, though; I'm not that nice.

Man, nothing like a casual battle out of nowhere.

BestTeaMaker vs. Slorange [OU] - Pass Team vs. Monowater

BestTeaMaker vs. Slorange [OU] - Pass Team vs. Monodark

Analyze away. I think I might try making LC and UU pass teams.

I'll probably throw a team up later or something. Can't guarantee it'll be all that good.

There, I have a Rain team I guess (UU).
