Need some music suggestions for my 4th of July community barbecue
06-08-2026, 02:49 PM
Hi Yahoo,
I'm having a community barbecue for the 4th of July (250 years! old much? LOL)
Anyway I'd love some music suggestions to add to the playlist. Would love some input as I'm not very hip to many songs myself. Something that really captures the holiday would be great, but I'm sure anything you suggest would be swell! XOXO.

Hi OP.
I've never been to a Fourth of July party before but here are some tracks I really vibe with and I hope they will fit the atmosphere for you.

Hi Ixcaliber! Now I knew we would get some jokers in here. You goofball, you can't trick me, that first one is a Christmas song! Christmas in July? Save that for a month when it's cold outside!
All the others are really fine suggestions!
Can't have the fourth of July without a good marching band song! Though is there a way to keep that flag picture off the playlist? It looks a little like a play off of ole Dixie and I don't want to offend anybody by making fun of the Confederacy.
Herald of Darkness has some really powerful voices. Is that from Hamilton? I haven't watched it myself but I think I'd like it!
And Thank You for those last two songs, I was really worried I wouldn't have anything for the kids. But you can't go wrong with pokemon! And I've been on the hunt for a band like The Wiggles, but without the British accent.
Oh I also got a great suggestion from Agent on discord:
Now That's someone who is excited about the Fourth of July!

Actually OP I live in the hemisphere where we get Christmas in July so Jingle Bell Rock is very applicable to a Fourth of July party I would go to.

I'm so embarrassed. I had completely forgotten that people lived over there!
I still don't think I can use it in my playlist though, the folks here might get confused.

Thanks for the consideration OP. I went and did some research on the Fourth of July and I think I have a couple of more appropriate tracks that maybe you might enjoy
(obviously fireworks are very Fourth of July)
(a classic of independence music)
(and in a similar vein this is where Katy Perry declared her independence from making good music)
(this one is literally called Fourth of July it couldn't be more thematically appropriate)
(very interesting take on the holiday from a little band called Nirvana)
(one more because i don't think you can really play enough Katy Perry in any one social gathering)

Howdy, or should I say, g'day!
I might not be in the USA but I've always been fascinated with the american tv shows, american art, and, most of all, american music!
Here are some songs I thought might be perfect for the occasion. Some old, some not as old, some almost new!
A song by Daddy Cool (Daddy Who? Daddy Cool!) that's all about Americans being pleased, which I think is what every American wants to be on the 4th of July.
They aren't American, but I couldn't help adding a local group because they're sound so upbeat about how strong America is! Oh, the power and the passion!
Now, we're ROCKING! It even mentions black people in the lyrics, but I didn't read past first the few lines because I was too busy square-dancing. The perfect inclusive song for all Americans. Ain't that America?
The kids might not be in school, but they might be home at the same time so maybe you can ask them this question?
I think I might've heard a naughty word at some point, but it seems like the right kind of message; everyone wants their kids to go far in life.

(obviously fireworks are very Fourth of July) If you thought I didn't already have this on my playlist you were mistaken! But I will for sure put it on there a second time! This song has been played at every Fourth of July party since 2012 and this is not a joke.

What lovely picks! They talk about celebrating and everything. And that last one is called 4th of July! I'm starting to feel a little silly that I could have just searched that one for myself.

That song is called "Lake of Fire" and while I do enjoy a little Johnny Cash myself now and again, It doesn't seem appropriate to play a song about the bad place when celebrating Democracy's birthday.

Well Howdy to you too! It's nice to run into such great people here on the internet.

These are all excellent picks! I hadn't heard of these singers myself but I know everyone will love them! I love how Mr. Melloncamp sings about America as the home of the free! And I've been on the hunt for a good tribute to our service members.
Now, Mr. Paxton does sing about school, which is lovely, but he also has the same name as our future state senator. I mean, Mr. future Senator Paxton has done a lot of things that make me very uncomfortable. But the brochures they hand out at the polling places let me and my friends know we're supposed to vote for him, so I'm sure he has a lot of fans and I don't want me being uncomfortable to make someone else uncomfortable so I think I may keep this one off the list for now.
The last thing I want people to think about during the 4th of July is politics.

Oh I'm sorry but swears are a no-go for this party. Do you think they may have recorded a version for the radio I could use?

Oh uhm, excuse me, OP, I'm the OP for this question. I don't mean to be rude but maybe you could make a separate question. Violence doesn't really have anything to do with America or the 4th of July. Do you mean "Valentines Day"?

I'm sorry you've got me confused with a different OP. I'm actually interested in getting Easter themed anime recommendations. We tried Neon Genesis Evangelion last year but they really talked about eggs a lot less than you would have expected.

Can you fill out the rest of the playlist with repeats of Katy Perry's Firework? Maybe one Roar as like a big climax to the evening. I really feel like we've hit every Fourth of July related song that exists at this point and its now your responsibility to time your barbecue appropriately.

This is a really scary video. I don't think anyone will be happy if I use this one, sorry. I was thinking more like that scene in the Doctor Who documentary where a DVD Easter Egg traps her in a conversation long enough for the statues to corner her. If you've got anything that can sync up with my opponents and engage them in conversation I'd really appreciate it.
