Stumpkin and inktrees

NED opens its eye and sees a white tree with black streaks, Dark Green leaves thickly covers each end of the branches with Dark blue, shiny fruits, dangling like cherries.

NED Then notices something at the foot of the tree.

What NED thought was stumps then began to move about the tree.
Naked little woodish beings moved around looking in confusion and wonder.

each of them looked around and explored their surroundings.

One group started picking the flowers and used them like scepters.

Another group started climbing up the white tree, then knocking off the dark blue fruits to there fellows below.

They all looked at the fruit and sniff the sweat scent if gave off. So inviting was the fruit that they started eating, covering their hands and mouths in black sticky juices.

They seemed pleased by the taste and sat around eating more.

Some started painting the juices on each others bodies, making strange symbols and shapes.

They also did this to the tree, painting symbols and leaving blue sticky hand prints all over the trunk.

A stumpkin held a seed stone from one of the fruits it had finished off.

The stumpkin looked at the slightly stained white seed intently, looking at the oval shape and feeling the smooth texture in its small little hands.

The Stumpkins then gasped as its hands began to glow for a moment.

Slowly from the seed a bright green little sapling, slowly emerged.
The Stumpkin smiled with delight and tried with another seed.

When the other Stumpkins saw this, they made excited noises, watched what the discoverer of this power did and mimicked it.

The Stumpkins then dug holes and planted their sapling in the ground.

Put their hands on the ground, they made a odd “ooooooooooooo” sound.

Their hands glowed green and the saplings grew at a rapid rate.

The trees continued to grow until they reached the same size as the first white tree.
The growing inktrees quickly bore ink fruits.

The Stumpkins where now surround by inktrees, in which they made there first grove. They all jumped in excitement in what they have done, they continued the same process again, filling the area with inktrees.

Then one urged the others to follow it into the neighboring forest.
everyone started collecting sticks, stones, leaves, plant fibers and remnants of bark in the area where the woodbores were.

Some of them looked at the woodbores slime covered eggs with concern, giving disgusted looks at the no pulsating eggs. They left them be, not wanting to investigate them any further and returned to the inktrees.

They started building little shelters on the ground, then stairs leading to platforms around the tree with walkways connecting from tree to tree, branch to branch. several tree houses where built too.

NED looked on as they worked on their homes and couldn't help but be proud of the Stumplings.

NED confusingly looked around for the thing he had thought of… where was it?

Then NED heard something making a distressing loud noise above.

High up in the tree was a Stumpkin trying to get the others attention.

All of them looked up, they heard the distraught stumpkin warning everyone to hide away

Some of the concerned members of its kin started to climb up to help.

Then a sound came from above,
“BBBBUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPpppp...”

A Windshark creature then Dropped from the tree canopy, quickly snapping the stumpkin tightly in its toothy maw. The Windshark shook and battered the terrified stumpkin against the tree, until the struggling and screaming was no more.

Yellow sap like blood, rained down on the Stumpkins below.

The stumpkins are horrified! Some fled to their shelters, while others watch as the shark swallowed its victim.

Sated, the Windshark breathed in, making a burping noise as it filled its internal gas bags, the shark then floated a few inches off the platform and with a snaking motion, flew back up into the canopy.

NED realised, thinking of something while near something, that NED already thought into existence, might not be a good idea.

NED didn’t mean to do this, he had no idea that the thing NED thought of would harm the stumpkins.

NED see the stumpkins making crude weapons, sharpened sticks and stone clubs. Guess they are going to try and fight it.

NED decides to moves away from the Stumpkins, walking back to the egg with legs.

“But what about balance? These tree eating creatures could be a problem. Look at how many eggs one of them lays. Not to mention how many trees they eats”

“It might not be a problem, those flying sharks could thin out the herd”

“And those little creatures can grow more trees”

“I'm still concerned that this thing can make anything it thinks, while not realising what it thinks. what happens if it makes something that could, oh I don’t know, destroy the world?”

“We could intervene now, remove both the little walking eyeball and cube”

“I do not agree, we should allow it to run freely until its done. So far It’s doing exemplary work, two sentient beings and a predator to hunt those beings to keep balance. I see no reason to intervene, so leave it be vanar, leave it be”

“I’m still not happy we are not down there shaping the world ourselves”

“And see it all first hand, I do envy that little eyeball”

Suddenly NED had a thought NED couldn't stop! Hastily NED moved into the clearing done by the woodbores then closed its eye. NED opened its eye and continued on towards the egg.

After NED left the area a tree came to life.

Whining of wood bending is heard and a face formed on the main body of the tree.
The face then opened its eyes and saw the slimy eggs.

Showing disgust in what it saw, It shook its face which tore out of the tree. Fibres stinged and snapped away from the head.

The sides of the tree then split apart to form arms. The living tree then moved its hand over its face and wiped the eggs away. The brunch broke away, leaving only a plate of bark the covered the ents face.

A humanoid shape parted from the tree, scattering wood chips and fibre. Its feet ripped out from the ground, creating mounds of earth around it as it step out of the earth.

The tree ent then wiped itself down, brushing away wood dust and chips from its barkless body, save the face.

##
[Image: cK37rdq.jpg]

The ent did not like its surroundings, eggs and goo covering the trees around it.
Making a growl of displeasure, it moved away from the eggs, wobbling as it was adjusting to walking for the first time.

humanoid but not human, which I like :D
I will draw outlandish creatures (one footed hopper/ gas bags/ laser hawks) but I need detailed description of them. otherwise ill try and draw what they are from the name.

Boucing Springtopuses = A octopus like land creature with strong tentacles that spring it into the air. catches prey by jumping on them from a yard

half termites Jackalotaurs = canine looking top part with a insectile bottom part. they eat fallen trees and rotting wood matter

Thanks and Zephyr Nepres summoned the deadly Wind sharks.

NED was about to follow the walking egg then something appeared in NED’s mind.
Running at the edge of the forest, NED then closed its eye.

When NED opened its eye, NED saw two odd looking figures, gnawing on a tree.
About as tall as the stumpkins yet not in shape.

They then looked around, chewing bark, looking for something.
Lightly hopping as they move from tree to tree gnawing on the bark.

Stopping by a tree very large tree, one of them bit a piece of bark out of it.
Then both of them, gather by the tree, digging a hole with their front legs and eating away at the trunk of the tree.
Both disappeared into the hole. Dirt flying out as the dug deeper down.

NED then saw something in the distance at the edge of the forest

A group of woodbores lazing around after gorging themselves in the woods.
Their face tentacles dangling and waving as they snored and grunted

NED then had another thought and closed its eye
When NED opened its eye again nothing seems to have appeared.
NED only saw the woodbores and nothing else.

Then NED saw in the distance, something raise up in the grass. They looked oval in shape and grassy.
Then it got smaller, the shapes flatting out.

Shooting up into the air the green shapes turned into stars with six points, then landed on the dozy woodbores.

There was a squeal from the woodbores, then a cracking sound followed by a sloppy crunch. Blood sprayed in between the green tentacles. Each devouring their prey, quickly into itself.
One of the woodbores escaped, running as fast as its little legs could, back into the forest with paniced squeals.
After finishing their prey, the springapuses coiled their six appendages underneath them and shot into the air, jumping far into the distance.

Blood stain and half eaten sticks was the only thing left of the woodbores

NED then carried on in the direction the egg had walked.
Then NED stopped as NED saw a giant move towards the stumpkin tree village

The stumpkins see the giant ent lumbering towards them.
All ran for their shelters.
Only a few stayed out defending the village with their crude weapons.

The ent stopped and looked down on the defenders who were threatening to spear the ent with their sharpened sticks.

The ent crouched down.
The stumpkins backed away instinctively, then forward again, jabbing their spears in the ents direction.

##

The ent extended a long finger to the stumpkins, which they responded in spearing the tip.
The spears harmlessly jabbed at the solid wood appendage, the ent keep its finger out and watched them curiously as they jab and jabber.

Above the canopy a sound that terrified the stumpkins, was heard again.

Whoah dude this is really impressive.

However, to be TOTALLY impressive this world needs a Fancy Snake. This legendary reptile, with its top hat and cape, encyclopedic knowledge of cocktail mixing, and erudite conversation, brings an air of urbane conviviality wherever it goes. The smooth talking serpent should be just the creature needed to charm the shoes (and stockings and shell) off of the leg egg.

Woah... This art is great. Reminds me of an old Italian cartoon, in fact.

Suggestions:

The Stumpkins could use a beast of burden species, the Gentlemanbug (pl. "gentlemenbug")
Gentlemenbug, be a large (about one and a half times as tall as a stumpkin while on all six), very culturally polite race of beetles with four walking and two walking/manipulative arms, where the males appear to be wearing a frock and use fallen leaves to knit themselves top hats, which they use to attract their mates.
Be also quite useful as riding creatures and beasts of burden, though they might politely complain about the latter if mistreated. Also, have a cultural need to use the words "I say" as often as possible.

Oh, and if there are flying sharks, how about some swimming songbirds:
The Songfish: Which is a kind of aquatic fish with very colourful plumage (scaleage?), that tends to stick it's head out of the water and emit a very cheery mating call.

A windshark descended from the canopy and landed a platform above the defending stumpkins.
The ent saw this strange creature fall from above and stood up, looking at the platform it was on.

The windshark began attacking a shelter, breaking open the shelters flimsy stick and moss walls.
Screaming stumpkins were inside.

Seeing them in distress, the ent quickly reached out and grabbed the wind shark.
The shark squirmed, burped and inflated, wriggling to get out of its grip

The ent, turning back towards from where it came from, brought its arm back which held the shark straight back and threw the wind shark deep into the forest. As the shark flew through the air, it burped and inflated futilely trying to gain control of its flight.
It disappeared from sight into the dark forest, then a squealing woodbore could be heard.

When the ent turn back towards the stumpkins, they knelt to their knees.
Many of them offered the ink fruit to the ent. Gathering them in heaps.

The ent took the tiny fruit with its fingers and examined it, but was not sure what to do with it.
Looking back down, the stumpkins motioned the Ent to eat the fruit, then ate the fruit themselves.

The ent then put the tiny fruit in its jagged bark mouth, squashing it on the top of its mouth, juices covering its tongue and trickling down into its throat.
The ent was pleased with the pleasant taste.
More stumpkins offered more of the fruit and began making even larger piles in front of the ent.
The ent gladly accepted their bountiful offerings, gabbing the heaps and shoving it in its mouth, which caused them to splatter and showered the stumpkins below.

Then suddenly the Ent started to grow a bark skin but not like the tree it had came from.
The bark was white as the ink trees and it covered the entirety of its body.
Its physique also began to change too

Duckreport#What kind of Gender should the ent have? Masculine or feminine?#Drudgerepond

NED continued on looking for the Egg among the yet to be settled ink trees.
The stumpkins have been very busy.
In the short time they were created they have grown a grove of ink trees.

NED saw more stumpkins still growing ink trees from seeds with the strange magic they possess. Soon the grove will be a forest, maybe even a kingdom in time...

NED Found the egg sitting down with two stumpkins trying to remove the foot wear.

“Aren't you little darlings helpful!” said the egg “Them pink things have given me nothing but grief since…. Hmm since it stopped me dancing…. What was I doing before that??...”

The egg was silent as it thought, the egg could only remember dancing, singing and nothing else.

Rather strange but the thought of dancing and singing made the egg happy.
That was all that mattered to the egg.

“My apoloigies! I did not mean to be rude, I was summoned quite quickly, that caused me to intrude”

“Darn it! Dont muddle duddle your words! im trying to rid myself from these torturous things”
said the egg waving its foot at the snake, then continued

“these little sweethearts were helping me. Up Until you popped out of the ground, like some slivering slavering, funny coloured, wack talking, surprize ting”

“Why do you need help from others, When you can easily remove them yourself?” said the snake who was now slithering near the egg

“You think i'm stupid or something? Ive plum done that!” The egg tried again doing it with the only limbs it thinks it has

“Plum! Interesting word, however, Why not try with your hands?” The snake gestured with its odd wavy arms

“Are you blind? I don't have thos….” as the egg gestured with arms, it didn't know it had, it cracked through the shell “oh!... isnt that something…” The egg examined its newly discovered hands.

Looking in that direction, NED saw something jump out the blue sea

A shiny silvery mass, Emerged and arced, out of the ocean and crashed back into the sea.

What it was where schools of Solarfish. Billions of them. Leaping out of the ocean and reflecting the sun with their silver scales.

They leap out of the ocean to feed by photosynthesis, absorbing the nutrients from the sea, decoxide from the air and the sun as they leap out of the ocean. Expelling oxygen as they hit the water, causing the sea to bubble and foam.

Each fish can reproduce thousands of eggs, that drift further into the sea

The Og-rogs looked at the silver fishes hungrily.
Then moved into the sea, swam towards the solarfish and disappeared beneath the waves.

The silver arcs then became fewer and then started to move away.

The copulating Og-rogs then stopped. The thinner one got up and went into the forest, following a river, while the larger one went into the sea, hunting the solarfish.

(06-23-2017, 07:02 PM)Superficial Wrote: »> Get some fibrous vines growing around all those tree trunks. The berries these guys have contains alcoholic juice in them. Party time.

Deep in the ink tree forest, a group of stumpkins continue growing more of the white trees using the rapid growing gift they all have.

A stumpkin then noticed a strange vine, bearing fruits wrapped around an oak tree.

The stumpkin called for the others and investigated the fruit vine.

The vine is green with shiny red berries, that are shaped oval with a long neck attached to the vine.

Now, stumpkins have not seen any other fruits apart from ink berries, and the possibilities of fruits being poisonous has never occurred to them.

Without caution the stumpkins bit into the fruits.

Sweet and juicy, yet something else was in it which they have never tasted, a slight bitterness.
The effects of the berries were not apparent and the stumpkins seemed to enjoy the red berries.

More were picked and eaten. The effects soon showed as a drunk stupor came over them.
The stumpkins giggled and sang wildly as they stumbled about, the forest seemingly to them, started spinning around them.

Some were getting a bit too randy and copulated on the spot. Others puking yellow bile before falling unconscious in their own spew.

Eventually they all fell asleep around the vines, with half eaten vine berries tightly in hand.

Then a female og-rog came across the sleeping stumpkins while looking for a place to spawn.

She looked at the odd little things snoring loudly.
Then she looked at them with very hungry eyes.

Picking up one of the stumpkins by the hand, the ogre frog placed them in her large mouth and swallowed the stumpkin whole…… then immediately puke them up violently.

The og-rog then stumbled away from the site, clearly affected by the jucies that covered the stumpkins. or was it the stumpkin itself?

The Og-Rog has learned they are unpalatable and no longer will pursue them as nourishment

Once the Ogre frogette was out of site, NED who was following her, looked at the unconscious stumpkins, covered in juices and puke from both them and the ogre.

There was no way NED could carry them all and considered looking for the birdling aka the egg with legs, for help. Then it dawned on NED.
NED could not comunitate, NED had no mouth to speak or scream.

This was rather inconvenient for NED and gestured in frustration.

Then NED had a thought, taking the risk of a possible helpful or harmful creature being summoned, NED closed its eye.

Then NED opened its eye and looked around.
There was nothing, looking behind, NED search for the thought that was summoned.

Then NED heard a clicking, chirping and “I Say” in a high pitch voice, coming from behind him.

NED saw a strange bug like creature with 4 legs and 2 arms but scuttled around on all 6.
Some wore a frock coat of leaves, a headdress similar to the snakes and antennae that curls on the sides of its face.

The strange bugs looked over the passed out stumpkins who were still holding the berries in their hands.

“I’d say they look very wacked out dont they?”
“yes! very out of it, what what”
“They do smell a bit off dont they?”
“ruddy disgraceful I’d say!”
“Terrible display i’d say what what”

A hatless one then said
“We should take the poor little things home, don't you think?”

The hatted ones then said
“I say, that would be very gentlemanly of us, yes yes”
“Capital idea!”
“very well! let's do that”
“here here”
“Jolly good show! Lets go”

Scooping them up they put them on the backs of the hatted ones, then one of them complained as it received a bit to many

“I say thats not ruddy fair, i've got more than my share”
“Do be a sport and take them would you dear”
“Oh! very well, what what my dear”

and then headed towards the stumpkin village, with the stumpkins still holding the wine berries.

I vote that the ent should be hermaphroditic, as many plants are. Ent fruit, turn out to be highly attractive to the jackalotaurs (which then act as surrogate parents, as the ent seeds sprout in their stomachs. Then they have an instinctual urge to return to the ent just before the growing entling grows too much for their small bodies to handle. Near a cove, merlings and song fish sing to each other
The merlings are a female race with no males counted in their species

A frill covers the middle of the head. Their mouths protrude out and lips plump. Gills on the sides of the neck and fins, fanned on both sides of the head
Their tails are covered in seaweed that are strapped on as decorations or maybe snacks?

The song fish are multi coloured rainbow scaled fish. That pop out of the sea and singing a high vocal tone. Several fish pop out of the ocean with different tones and oddly in rhythm.

Normally this would be a mating call but right now they are doing this as a game with the merlings

The rainbow fish sing to the merlings and the merlings sang to them in response.
The singing echoed and resonated in the cove almost like an orchestra hall

NED Followed the gentle men and lady bugs back to the stumpkin’s home. How did they know where the stumpkins lived?
NED wondered if his powers could have imparted some knowledge of the whereabouts of the village. NED then became worried and remembered the Og-Rogs, Would they know?

Upon returning to the village, NED saw the Birdling, aka Egg and the Snake

“Be sensible my dear, carrying the shell does nothing but unhinder your fears”
“Im not taking it off! I feel improper without it, it dont feel right”
She put her hands on her hips causing more shell to break off. Making the birdling even more frustrated

The birdling, still wearing the pink footwear and stockings, was not accustomed to the shoes. She stumbled and bent her foot awkwardly.

“Why not take off those heels? I know it does not appeal”
“I would take them off but you keep trying to get me out of my shell! You no good creep!”
“Snake”
“Snake whatever, keep your wavy paws off mah shell, I ain't coming out of it”

The shoes unbalanced her yet again and caused her to fall.
Which finally broke the shell apart.

The birdling quickly got to her knees and tried to put the shell pieces back together, even putting them on her body. The shell crumbled into dust and blew away in the breeze.

She sighed and without any thought of them, spread her wings
The four wings fanned out and glittered in the sunlight with a rainbow of sparkles.
Insectile in looks but a with translucent feathers covering each wing

The snake then started singing
“Hey chick your looking swell” *snap*
“I see Wings, without your shell”
“Shimmer Brightly in the sunlight” *snap*
“Tho that big bum is quite a sight”

At that point, the emergence of many beetles erupted from the ground, surrounding the birdling.

About half the size of the stumpkins, roundish and dark blue in colour
The little insects giggle and looked at the birdling

“I’m gonna pollinate you! Yeah! Yeah!” they said, before scuttling and crawling up the birdlings leg

The birdling panicked and shook her leg, causing her to fall on her behind

“EEK! Get off me ya lecherous creeps!”
she swatted them off but Undeterred they came back and crawled over other parts of her body.
Rubbing themselves on her red feathers, while giggling creepily.
A pair of cads carried away the pink shoes the birdling wore.

“Mmm you smell fresh!” a cad said

“You brutes! Unhand her” a group of gentleman bugs wielding sticks quickly approached and assailed the cadbeetles.

“Have at you!” said one of the gentlemen bugs as it whacked a cad off the birdling.
They whacked and smacked the cadbeetles into a hasty retreat, flying deeper into the inkwoods.

The birdling scooped the gentlemen bugs up into her arms.

“Mah heros!” the birdling said as she cuddled them into her feathery bosom
A very hearty “I SAY!” could be heard from the gentlemen bugs

Earlier in the halls of Aiu. The vanar sung the song of creation, like they have done many times before.
Each group sung the a melody based on the theme Aiu gave them.
During this singing, one of the vanar sneezed!

“AHKCOO!”

Shocked and Embarrassed, the vanar looked around.
The other vanar were too engrossed in the melody to notice.
The vanar continued singing like nothing had happened.

“Probably won't affect anything” thought the vanar

The terra cube then glowed and shook.
A sound of a loud thunderclap could be heard but almost like a spoken word.
“AHKCOO!”

The land mass around the cube started to lift up into the air.
The water filling in the massive hole left behind. Small parts, broke apart from the floating landmass and ascended further into the sky.

One of their superstitions is, that crossing another's slime trail before it dries up brings them misfortune.

On the floating island, slithering entities emerge from the mountain caves, leaving a trail of glistening slime behind them. The slixen looked out from their dark cave and saw the glowing terra cube.

A hermaphrodite race mix of mammal and gastropod. Bearing two slender pair of arms and two bulky masculine arms below them. The head is vulpine with stalked eye pods. The top body is a female vulpine and the lower part of a gastropod, the top of it covered in fur. The foot is pink and secretes a lubricating substance making it easy to move and leave a trail for others to follow, however they never cross over trails, maybe out of politeness or superstition.

Bewitched by the glow of the cube, they congregated by it, every slixen touching the cube.
As if they were struck with inspiration, they began building the foundation of what would be their kingdom around the cube.
The caves had many sharp stones for use as tools in which they used to build their first homes.

Then they mined and shaped stone from the caves, rich in marble and gems, building a white palace fitting for their perceived stature.

They began domesticating the plants and built fields of greens, wheat and textile crops.
Aqueducts bringing water from the mountains that never seem to stop.
Tamed giant bugs and harvesting silk, which they weaved white raiment from.

Inside the white palace the slixens wrote words, made art and fine crafted things of beauty from stone, gems and later gold, silver.
Arguments in philosophy and beliefs echoed through out its white halls

They wrote books of everything they found and explored.
In which, they ventured the all over the island. Seeking more things to study. Plants, animals, things strange and unamed

Finally they focused their attention on the world below with the aid of a telescope made of quartz.
They observed the activity below.
They did not like what they saw.

Brutish og-rogs who seem to be harassing the merfolk cove, the grass octopus leaping and attacking a pack of armed jackotaurs and the wood bores, way too many of them, destroying miles of forest.

Things did not improve from here.
Suddenly something big obscured the slixens view through the telescope.
She looked with her other eye and saw a windshark quickly approaching.

The expedition group was attacked by a pack of windsharks.
Big ones!

The windsharks did not like the taste of slixen flesh.
Hacking and spatting out bloody chucks
Disinterested in eating them, the windsharks flew to other parts of the island causing havoc.

The surviving expedition members returned as quick as they could to the palace.

The rampaging windsharks bought their home into ruin. only the palace held against their onslaught. Several slixens were injured or killed from fighting back.
The windsharks had eaten the domesticated bugs and tore into the homes searching for things to consume.

Once sated they sharks flew into the mountains.

During this lapse from the carnage, the slixens hastily made crude weapons, which aesthetically displeased them but they had to hurry, in fear the windsharks will return.

Return they did a day later.

Many died from the mauling attacks of the windsharks, but the slixens endured and won with spear, bow and nets. the windsharks were all fought off and exterminated.

They made trophies out of their bones and hides from the windsharks.
Their carcass were studied, researching this new threat before using them as fertillizer.

New weapons were made of better craft and materials mined from the mountains.
They rebuilt their homes, trained everyone the use of spear and bow.
Taught how to kill windsharks and theory combat practice against the races from below.

This experience with the windsharks and the observation reports of below has coloured all beneath them as barbaric and uncivilised

The slixens discussed what should be done? should they descend below and explore? Bring civilisation to them?

Eventually the slixens had concluded that the world below was far too uncivilized and violent.

No slixen will ever go down below and nothing should come above.

This isolation policy was made and became part of their culture
Observation was to continue for study and research.

Around the island, the slixen built walls with mounted ballistas and patrolled them for windsharks or other things yet to be seen.

The slixen concentrated on their craft and art. They thought nothing more of the world below for now.

The ent white bark skin grew and its body shape became androgynous. Slender and rippled with what looks like muscles. Its head grows branches like horns and grow thick with leaves. Ink flowers grow and bloom. White petals and black stigma.

Cad beetles fly in and “oh no they humping the flowers!” cross pollinated them before flying off, covered in black pollen.

The flowers shed its petals and began to bulge at the base of the flower. A fruit begins to grow but not the same as the ink fruit however. The shape was oval in shape, similar to a mango, pink with black splotches.

A fruit fell off and landed on the platform.
One of the stumpkins, picked it up and examined it.
Feeling it, the skin of the fruit felt soft and smelt sweet like strawberries

The stumpkin bit into the fruit, the flesh was bright pink with tiny black dot seeds,
Similar to kiwi or dragon fruit.
She picked the tiny seed out and then used her magic to grow it…. Nothing happened
Again she used her magic…. Still nothing happened. Confused she tried again a third time

Nothing. This is odd. With the pink mango in hand, she headed down and planted the seed into the earth beside the tree ent.

The tree ent crouched down and watched inquisitively

Again she used her growing magic on the small mound of dirt.
No a single sprout emerged. The stumpkin sighed with disappointment.

She was about to take another bite from the fruit again, then saw a jackataur only a foot in front of her. How did it get so close without anyone knowing?
Cautiously the jackotaur approached the stumpkin, sniffing in her direction.
Its attention then focused on the pink fruit. She notices and holds out the fruit to the jackolope.

The jackotaur slowly takes the pink fruit from the stumpkin, then starts nibbling the pink mango.

Cautiously she reached out and stroked the ears of the jackotaur which didn't seem to mind.
The jackotaur chirps as it's being stroked

Eventually it wandered away with the fruit, back into the forest.

The stumpkin followed the jackotaur, the ent picked up the little stumpkin, placed her on its shoulder and followed the jackotaur.

Awaiting commands

Does the fruit effect the stumpkin? Or is the stumpkin immune?

I imagine the entlings bursting out of its victim (alien)/ victims slowly turn into ents / pooped out (gross) / or mutate the dna of the victim so the offspring is born a ent

RE: Mundus Deus (NSFW, slug vixens and pink mangos)
The ent fruit grants a temporary boon of Cosmic Vision (i.e. vivid hallucinations) to whomever eats it.

The seeds have a hard waxy coating which requires they pass through the digestive system of a jackotaur before they can germinate. They also have to undergo a hard freeze. (They can't be easy to sprout, otherwise we would be overrun with ents!)

I have nothing to add to this: only the editorial comments that I'm boggled by the amazing draughtsmanship of the illustrations, and I have definite flashbacks to the early 1970s from the art style and story path.
