You've decided to start up you're favorite game, the hip game of this or any other century, Fortuna. Having gone slightly bored of the pure vanilla experience, you've decided to use a few mods, just a few things to spice things up a bit. Like this sweet new graphics pack, mhmm, taste the RETRO. Aside from that you've got a Roman-Centric mod that you're not entirely certain of how it'll go, but well, we shall see won't we. Heh.
Anyway, you quickly click over to the Achievements section to peruse some things.
You speed swifly along the shop list, noting briefly what you have of each. You've only played this universe a few times, so you don't exactly have a lot of Fortuna items, but the ones you got are... interesting, you've got the Fortuna dice at least, so there's that.

SpoilerPew-Pew Blaster

A Box of Bees
Cost: 100
Some people say there's such a thing as "too many bees". We don't talk to those people.
A Ham Sandwhich
Cost: 100
That was totally an appropriate time for ham.
Bumble-Bot
Cost: 500
Allows you to start with this adorable robotic bee in the crew inventory. The loud buzzing is a design feature, not a fault.
A door handle
Cost: 3000
For the man who really needs to get into his house.
Paper-Crown of the Sun God
Cost: 0
You really tried, didn't you.
Mystery box
Cost: 500
Open the box, you’ll never know what you could get!
Fortuna dice
Cost: 500
Be able to see what rolls Fortuna is deciding for you.
Of course, the most important decision for any game of Fortuna, is who your Patrons are, for they can decide the course of your games even more so than the bizzare scenarios and other weirdness you're likely to encounter in a normal game. Normally, you don't start with many Romans, but the Roman mod replaced the default starter patrons with these. Also you unlocked Nike, so she's there too.[/align]
Mars
Show Content
SpoilerPowers
Mars will grant your characters a passive 'cohesion bonus' during all combat encounters in which 2 or more crew members are present. This bonus will make your characters more accurate, do more damage, and suffer less.
Mars will require the use of one of your crew members as a 'Centurion'. Mars will control this character, who will have more points, only one red trait, and the unique ability [Martian Command]
Mars will grant your crew military grade equipment and weapons at the start of the game.
Pros
-Mars' Centurion is functionally a second Captain, and He will use it to that effect.
-Mars will come up with and freely share plans to deal with the majority of situations. Note, these plans usually involve force and aggression.
-Mars may be persuaded to allow you control of his centurion if you have a Mars unit present.
Cons
-Mars has little patience for 'wimpy effeminate bullshit' and will become increasingly insensed if the player does not deal will problems in a manner he approves of.
-Mars doesn't tolerate 'sloppy playing' and will get very aggrieved if the player acts in an inefficient or 'sloppy manner'
-Mars is very proud and will respond to insults or perceived insults to himself or the crew, very aggressively.
Minerva
Show Content
SpoilerPowers
Minerva is rather aggrieved towards luck, due to this, Minerva will force you to make a second roll whenever you get the lowest or highest value on a roll, and use the average between them.
Minerva will require the use of one of your crewmembers as a 'councillor'. Minerva will control this character and they will gain increased points and only one negative trait, as well as the unique ability, [Minervan Wisdom]
Pros
-Minerva is very chill, and will hold no ill will if you decide to act against Her judgment, and will leave as soon as you desire with little fuss.
-Minerva commonly comes up with well thought up plans and actions as she refuses to fight a battle she does not believe she can win. She knows when to respectfully retreat.
Cons
-Minerva has little patience for 'stupid macho bullshit', and while she won't hold particularly long-standing annoyance over doing so, will make clear Her disagreement.
-Minerva is very 'sassy' and is likely to express her annoyences via passive aggressive swipes. This may greatly annoy certain other patrons.
-Minerva will refuse to give you her councillor unless you have maximum friendship.
Sol
Show Content
SpoilerPowers
Sol has no powers but his extensive knowledge, which He will grant almost too freely and liberally. He will use this knowledge to help the player avoid danger and clear obfuscation.
Pros
-Doesn't complain much or very loudly.
-Very eager to please, almost too eager in fact, it's almost suspicious and a little concerning.
-Will offer advice whenever asked, or when not asked, or when noone even knew there was something that needed advice on.
Cons
-While outwardly confident and bold, He's actually very insecure and will react to rejection very badly.
-Will never leave or lose gracefully.
-Has very little actual utility.
Victoria
Show Content
SpoilerPowers
You're crew will almost never lose morale. During most scenarios your crew will find some way to positive and/or upbeat about the situation at hand even if it is rather dire. The exception is if members of your crew lose fights or competitions, in these events, you're crewmembers will be crushed, almost too much so in fact, reaching the brink of despair for losing a friendly 'last one out is a rotten egg' style bet. On the flipside, they love winning, and even a crewmember in a crushing spiral of despair will get their pep back if a friend wins even something as simple as rock scissors paper.
Pros
-You will rarely have to worry about morale.
-Victoria loves winning, and will never have a problem with you as long as you always win.
-Crewmembers are very motivated by competition and will work very hard to win.
Cons
-Victoria can be very intense, especially if you display ambivalence towards winning.
-Victoria hates losing, and will become very agitated if the player fails at anything. Suffering repeated setbacks or failures will usually cause her to leave in disgust.
-As your crew value victory over all else, they will have no problems with cheating. Ever. This is usually okay, except when it is not.
Nike
Show Content
SpoilerPowers
Your crew will never lose morale. Ever. Your crew will find ways to be in high sprites no matter what. They will find a way to be excited about the last bag of potato chips, separating them from life and death. All crew members will see honor in death. Nike can also control any character to taunt, this taunt makes the other characters angry, but also lowers their int causing them to do stupid acts.
Pros
- Never have to worry about morale.
- Everyone is always motivated and works to their highest degree.
- Easy to get along with as long as you have the right attitude.
Cons
-Having a lame attitude makes Nike hard to work with as she doesn’t understand how someone can not be upbeat.
-Nike may taunt when you do not wish her to for comedy.
-Having a bunch of crew members who are cheerful as everything and everyone dies around them is creepy and if things get back all crewmembers will gain [Unsettling] as a trait.
You take a moment to ponder your options. As well, you note that after pre-emptively spending some points, you have 1200 achievement points left with which to spend. This is a very important decision and you shouldn't make it lightly.

Not terribly picky what the points get spent on, but I feel having both Mars and Minerva will end well.
Edit: For bonus points, have a Centurion Councillor.
Quiet. Good for an unusual opinion. Doesn't talk much.

The bumblebot is probably cool, but if you combine it with two new patrons you'd be 1500 points down the hole and we only have 1200.

Second patron slot is on so we don't need to pay for that, we also have one fortuna item slot so no paying for that. It's 500 for the bumblebot, and it seems we already own these patrons so they're free I think. Then it's 500 for the keyword.
If I'm right we're only using 1000 out of 1200.

You purchase cute little Bumblebot, the Keyword [Bee] and the Paper Crown of the Sun God, just because, and then you pick Mars and Minerva as your patrons.
Yes, that seems like a very sensible decision that couldn't possibly go wrong.
Greetings player It is good to be-
Hello there-
WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE PLAYER!!!
Wow, not even a minute in and you're already shouting, that's got to be a new record.
AND NOT EVEN A SINGLE MINUTE IN AND YOU ARE ALREADY STARTING WITH THE SASS. YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT SASS.
Oh no, I'm sure nobody knows how you feel about sass, you've never mentioned it before.
SASS
Is this how you're going to be today?
: I WILL BE HOWEVER I WANT TO BE TODAY!!!
: I think we can all see that, you're being professional.
: I WAS ALL SET TO RUN A VERY NICE GAME WITH THE PLAYER, ONE FULL OF WAR AND CONQUEST AND GLORY AND DEATH!!!
: BUT THEN YOU CAME IN WITH YOUR SASSY MOUTH!!!
: Not that that doesn't thrilling and everything, but, how do you even know the player is aiming for a game of 'War and Conquest' and *tch* "Glory"
: Errr... uh, I sort-of... assumed. I mean they did pick MARS, GOD OF WAR, as one of their patrons.
: Mhmm
: It's not at all an unreasonable assumption, shut up!

: Yes, I will admit, the Minerva is a fine ship if your not in the business of universal war.
:How uncharacteristicly gracious of you.
: ...It's owner on the other Hand.
: Actually that reminds me, as neither of us are particularly keen on allowing the other one to be in charge of your ship, I think It would be best If you chose someone else to run it.
: I would actually reccomend Victoria, the only member of your little battle posse I can actually stand.
: What? But what about Bellona, what do you have against Bellona!?
: Well firstly, the player hasn't unlocked Her.
: Secondly, Bellona's a psychopath who shouldn't be allowed near anyone, she'd only mess things up with here moods.
: You just don't understand Her... fine.

I feel like if we choose the Mars or Minerva ship the other patron (the one who's ship wasn't chosen) will think we're showing favoritism to the other.

Do we have any idea what these ships do?
I mean I know the Mars ship is ment for combat and the Minerva ship has sensors and item teleportation but that's about it.
