Question: I'm guessing we can split up, and if so how good/bad of an idea is it to tackle enemies on our lonesome in order to cover more ground?

Assuming that's not an absolutely terrible idea, I'll head straight down to crack open that chest o' loot.

(If it is I might reconsider? But surely NOTHING CAN GO WRONG)

Can enemies move, or do more opponents appear over time? Because otherwise it's possible to get a party of four after only defeating one enemy, and to beat the entire game fighting only three battles.

I think each turn that Mirdini takes in the battle is the same amount of "time" it takes for the others to move one space on the map, right?

Very yes!

No flanking though, players that join in on the fight will appear randomly on the left grid

FIGHTS

Mix up two Fire Bases, then mix up another Fire Base with the resulting compound.

(I'm assuming (at least these) enemies have the same attack constraints I do and that they'll move into a nice line to attack me as a result)

I personally think Enigmatic Ether is a "Random" Potion and thus have no idea if Birthday Lightning and Enigmatic Ether would create Christmas Flames or something else entirely.
