Part 7: Two Different Maniacs

Recap time. We wandered around Cerulean for a bit and took on Greg and the Nugget Bridge challenge. We also caught Sehkt the Venonat and Onion the Oddish, as well as receiving Rex, a Charmander, from some kid. Then we started to head to Bill's house, but Onion died in a battle before we got too far.


Feh. I leave the Pokemon Center the next day, still feeling like shit. At some point, though, I realize it's pointless for me to mope around. Something in the back of my mind tells me that Greg has probably gotten way ahead of me by now, and I pull that forward, using it as my motivation.




I head back up to Route 25, breezing through the trainers there.


This happens.




More trainers.


(I noticed Rogga was like, 30xp from a level and fought something in the grass)


So this is Bill's house?


Nimbus, what are you...


What is that. Why is that Pokemon there. Where's Bill.


...What kind of sick experiments have been going on here? Talking Pokemon?


No, you most definitely are.


A true blue Pokemon maybe.


You are a Pokemon.


...Okay. We'll go with that.


...I guess. It's not like I don't have Rogga to help me.


The what.


Wait.


Same here, Nimbus.


There's a bunch of weird boxes on the computer, a bunch of things I don't understand. Internet Explorer? You...Tube? I don't get any of this. I finally find a word I recognize from Bill's speech, 'Cell', and somehow manage to get it running. The machine lights up with a bunch of different colors and stuff, causing Nimbus to jump back in surprise.


I sit there for a moment, wondering if I broke it, when suddenly this dude stumbles out another door on the machine.


What the fuck.


No.


I just came to say thanks for the PC. I think.


...Hey, why didn't Greg help you?


What's this?


I have to go to Vermilion? Siiiiiiigh.


Oh.


I'm not one for 'fancy do's' much myself. But fine. Whatever.


Not much else to do now, is there, Nimbus?


I find this cool path, head down to the Pokemon Center, and go back up to train.


(I actually forgot this guy was here and ran into him by accident)


Done like dinner.


I finish training, all of my Pokemon looking happy. I grin. I'm feeling good about this gym. I heard it's a water type gym, and I've got Nimbus and Rogga to take on the strong ones, with Sehkt, Ava, and Tox as back up. This is going to be a piece of cake.


On my way to the gym, I noticed the policewoman moved away from the door, staring out into the distance. I could probably slip through... but why would I do that?


Sure is.


Christ, there's water everywhere. Watch it, Nimbus.


The leader's cronies go down easily.


The woman herself.


I suppose I am.


I tell my Pokemon to attack, and they do.


Called it.


Aight.


...Don't call me that.


Alright, let's do it.


I... have no idea what that thing is, but send out Sehkt to take care of it.


Damn it, Sehkt. (also known as me trying harder than I should have to hit that damn Staryu with Supersonic.)


That's better.


One down, one to go.

At this point, she sends out another, stronger looking star thing. I assume it's the old star thing's evolution. Piece of cake, right? I send out Nimbus, intending to get off a Thunder Wave and then switch into Rogga. But then it happens. Before Nimbus can make a move, the Starmie - that's what my Pokedex said it was - launches forward, spraying out a compact stream of bubbles. It strikes Nimbus right on the head, throwing him back. He lands on the ground with a thud.


I get tunnel vision. Nimbus just lays on the ground, not moving. My vision goes red and I jam my hand into my bag, slinging out Rogga. He erupts from the Pokeball, catching sight of Nimbus and roaring. This seems to catch the Starmie off guard. Rogga spirals through the air, latching onto the Starmie and begins chomping down. It begins to panic, spraying bubbles at the Gyarados. Rogga doesn't relent, and soon, the Starmie is limp in his grasp. Fists clenched, I watch as Rogga continues to massacre the Pokemon until Misty calls out, telling me it's down. I let Rogga continue, pretending not to hear for a second, before calling him off. Rogga snorts, whacking the Starmie one last time with his tail. Misty sighs and looks at her fallen Pokemon. It, like Nimbus, lays unmoving on the ground.


I stroll over, picking up Nimbus' still body. He stirs slightly, but I know that he's done for. I cradle him in my arms, turning to face Misty for, hopefully, the last time.


...


Great.


Wow.


At this point, she looks ticked off. Probably because of her Starmie. But hey, I'm pissed off too. We glare at each other for a bit before Rogga growls and Misty backs off a bit. I return Rogga to his Pokeball, striding out of the gym with Nimbus in my arms.


The guy next to the gym sees me strolling out, ready to say something, only to look shocked. I guess he sees how angry I am. Or something. He stutters out something about a Bulbasaur, but tells me to forget about it.


...Me too Nimbus. Me too. After twenty minutes of holding out, Nimbus finally collapses. I walk over to the nurse, telling her that I need another Pokemon sent to Pokemon Tower. She looks shocked as I hand her Nimbus, as well as my other Pokemon to heal. It's done in less than a minute, and I head over to the PC.


Slides looks happy to see me, until he gets a good look at me. Then he flits over an lands on my head, seemingly trying to comfort me. I return him to his Pokeball.


I head over to the house I heard the dude outside the gym mumbling about. I spot a lady tending to some Pokemon.


She stops talking, then looks me over. Her smile stays until she looks me in the eyes. She stoops down, picking up the Bulbasaur, and tells me that she just remembered that somebody else came for him earlier. I snort at the obvious lie, but head out anyway.


I head towards the house that was robbed, ready to find a way out of Cerulean.
