I think there's a lot of things to admire about cockroaches, but I'm not gonna complain if you kill them. The ones which end up in your house are pretty gross, and not really something you'd want to voluntarily share your house with.

Unlike spiders (for instance), they scuttle around and make noise, and specifically cohabit places where you keep your food. They are also disease vectors.

Cockroaches are in the order Blattodea, and comprise about 4,500 species. Their body plan has not been significantly modified by evolution for about 140 million years. 30 of these 4,500 species can be found in human dwellings around the world, and four of these (the German, American, Australian, and Oriental cockroaches) are widespread household pests.

Termites (which comprise a further estimated 4,500 species) are descendants of cockroaches. Some termite species are also regarded as household pests, weakening wooden structures.
