in Pokémon Sun and Moon the anime there is a Mimikyu who hangs out with Team Rocket and who is a regular ghost pokémon, but also later in the series there is a ghost Mimikyu who is the ghost of a dead Mimikyu who cannot touch or interact with the world and floats around. This is considered odd by Satoshi, but like, doesn't bring into question the very fabric of reality which I really feel like it should.
So in the anime at least death does exist and even ghosts can die.
