This is because there was a lot more oxygen in the atmosphere then, so their primitive cardiovascular systems (their Blood Systems) were able to keep up with their Very Large bodies.
Blood fact: the primitive respiratory systems of bugs is made up of spiracles, air tubes that connect directly to bug tissues. The above fact has nothing to do with blood at all!
