Frozen Hearts Mafia [Family Ties - Mafia/Survivor Victory]
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
Anyways Things:

Earlygame when he was doing the ~i ask questions first and shoot later~ stuff speedchuck stepped out to go "oh don't worry he's sort of like this but hey you should probably vote more"

Aaaand then he immediately jumped on to afflie. /Both/ speedchuck and pala react to that with "oh no this lynch train is bad" and SB then swaps off to donut

Speedchuck and pala both just go "this lynch is oooOOOOoooOO"; neither one really says why they think affle is a bad lynch just oh goodness this is so sudden

Both of them are decent enough at this to know that a sudden speedwagon all over someone pretty new would get major Looks and I think they were coaching speedball and panicked when he went wrong
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
What about Stiq then? (Nobody else is talking)
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
Ninja'd. That's a good point, and regardless of my flip, you should go after Pala for that.
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
i am busy being ashamed
vote speed
if my claim gets us a dead scum i will probably feel better
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
Sorry, Donut, but dat aint happenin'. Also plz don't lynch till Dini comes back kay?
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
Hey stiq why is donut town
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
why do you care if dini is back or not???
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
Cause Dini could verify my roleclaim. Doubt it would help too much, but it would be fun. He already kind of did in post #460, but it would be fun to chat about that.
RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
@MV I read some stuff Smash Ball was prodding Donut about, with respect to Donut's supposed "buddying vibes" between MOTG and Speedchuck, and then he made some offhand comment about how he'd rather lynch donut than affle or something. It's pretty limp as far as aggression goes, but I just have the overall feeling that Smash Ball did not address his scumbuddies D1.

Having even a relatively low tension argument with another member of your scumteam isn't the easiest thing to do because it's almost completely staged and I think maybe scum wasn't confident in Smash Ball's ability to pull that off. I can see why you don't think Donut is clear based on that reasoning, that's just the sense I get.

With respect to speedchuck: I don't think he's town but the read I have on him is weak and leaning scum. Maybe if had the patience to reread this game I would have a stronger opinion. In retrospect I can see what Acio means about the weird parallels between him and Pala and all that, and his garuru post was pretty off too, but I feel like this wagon isn't based on much?

Acio brings up something, though, which is apparently something some people think was important and I don't really understand: can... someone explain to me exactly what happened with the Affle lynch? I don't really know why it started and nor do I really understand why it stopped. It seems suspicious but I don't really understand the implications of it at all.

Pretty sure I did say why I thought the affle lynch was bad thank you try again. Also Acio I'd point out that nobody was giving the Affle wagon major Looks in the first place (and basically nobody did later), it had been going on for a while before I actually popped in and said anything. I also think it's super weird that just because smashball turned up scum you've decided that anyone opposing that lynch had to be coaching him but whatever.

Though congrats on having the first actual legitimate sounding suspicion on me. I'd give you a prize but I don't really have anything to offer. I'll admit you kind of look strange though (what with Mirdini being probably town or whatever the hell is up with that) and if speedchuck turns out to be town I'm probably going to add you to my 'want to lynch' list.

Out of curiosity what are your actual thoughts on Stiq though besides 'he needs an opinion on speedchuck vs. Pala'?

RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]
"Everyone shut up."

The crowd freezes again. I'm doing good with this crowd control business.

End of Day Two Votals

Speedchuck (9) (Garuru, Granolaman, makerofthegames, Mister Visceral, Mirdini, OzTheWizard, SupahKiven, Acionyx, icanhasdonut)
Granolaman (1) (speedchuck)
Stiqqery (1) (Palamedes)
Palamedes (1) (Stiqqery)

Abstaining (5) (Affle, Truegreen, Schazer, Ginx-sama, Cat)

The crowd reached a consensus amazingly fast. They watched me in anticipation, waiting for me to pick up the phone and condemn one of them to arrest. The actual surprise?

"I already made the call when you weren't looking. Someone's got to have a sense of order around here, and it looks like I'm going to be that person. You make a ruckus about a man, he's going to the slammer. Maybe next time we'll try to focus even with a lunatic firing shots in the air?"

I still wondered how he wasn't arrested for that. While contemplating the matter, police came and asked for speedchuck. He left rather quietly, calmly giving in to police presence. The rest of the cafe sat again in a reserved, quiet manner. Some calmly joked about the day's happenings, trying to hide their shakiness over what went down. I myself set out for the nearest hardware store to get the shattered window boarded up.

As I was walking back past the intersection of 23rd and Zephyr, I got a call on my cellphone. Lyncroft must've called while I was away - I instructed my phone was only for emergencies. The person they arrested this time must've been quite the catch.

"Lyncroft?" I asked.

"Blanchard," a familiar old voice replied. "It's going to take a while for this report to come out. There's some issues with the background check systems."

"Where's your tech department?" I asked.

"They're on the case, but something's up with it. It misbehaves on occasion, but it's unusual for it to act up this much."

"Don't fret," I replied. "Just call the cafe line when the report's up."

I made my way back and patched up the window, a few of my customers helping out. Knowing the situation at hand was defused, Lowell dropped by for coffee. He didn't stay long, but it made me glad to have him back for a moment. Minutes turned to hours, and still no call from Lyncroft came.

Right as I was about to storm into the windy night to pay the police a visit, the call came. Customers on their way out paused and stopped to listen to one side of our conversation.

"I can't get the report out tonight, Vincent."

"Why's that?" I responded, a little frustrated with the sudden lack of information.

"My guys have been fighting the system for hours, and conducting manual interviews with the suspect. They're telling me they need to investigate further."

"Lyncroft, I'm going to head down right now and figure this out. I need to know these kinds of things for my own investigations, if you want me to do my damn job-"

"Vincent, you'll be killed. One of them's dead through your arrangements, and it's pitch black out there. Full moon tonight. Nobody will find your body until dawn."

"Then get me a police escort."

"I'm not sending anyone else out tonight," Lyncroft said. "As far as I'm concerned, the darkness is a death sentence now that one of their ranks was killed. Kicking the hornet's nest, if you will."

"Fine," I grumbled, hanging up the phone. With one deft hand gesture, I dismissed the curious crowd and locked up for the night. I made sure the lock on my basement door was working tonight.

I don't think I'll read. My stomach's in knots, and these suspense thrillers aren't good for my stress levels. Sleep is going to be hard enough as it is tonight.

Speedchuck has been LYNCHED.

Night Two ends Friday, June 27th at 10PM EST (~45 hours).

RE: [16/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [NIGHT TWO: Without A Word]
DAY THREE
Above the Law

JANUARY 18

I didn't need my alarm clock to get out of bed this morning. The frenzied police action that began sometime around four in the morning did a good enough job of arousing me from my slumber. Normally I can deal with the horn honking that populates the city at night, but the sudden overload of alarms and signals told me a much different story.

I got up and turned on the lights in the cafe, seeing small fires emanating from the sewers. The underbelly of the city appeared to be burning, although not totally out of control. The flames did their job, however - the confusion blocked off just about every road in the city, gridlocking all traffic.

Right on cue, I was greeted by Lyncroft, clearly distraught at the crime which suddenly coursed through the veins of the peaceful city he kept watch over. Over the sirens and horns, we shouted back and forth in an effort to try and determine a course of action. No luck there. We ran down the streets and into the nearest unlocked building, locked the door, and stopped to catch our breaths.

We were greeted by a horrifying sight when we turned the lights on, however.

makerofthegames lay dead, his body protruding through a broken window. His back was lacerated with a cleaver, the metal implement driven through the base of his neck. Turning the body over revealed his torso and face were covered in dark grill marks - no surprise given the presence of a portable grill and some bacon nearby. There was also a message carved on the side of the wall.

GET FUCKED, SALAZAR

I didn't take much to piece two and two together. Someone found out about Demetrius's son practicing his craft secretly, and they clearly weren't too happy about it.

makerofthegames has been BRUTALLY MURDERED.

Later that morning, Lyncroft quickly got the full autopsy delivered to me, and I summarized the individual's background below as usual.

Caribou's Den had only recently become a central hub for businesses. Only the recent establishment of factories and other industrial work had spurred the currently unparalleled economic growth. For any city to ever thrive, business is needed - and it went without saying that business survived before in the literal and metaphorical wintry hell that is Caribou's Den. Small, family-owned businesses retained the same profitability today they did many years ago when the city was but an upstarting outpost.

He always looked up to your father. His father was the third in line to run the family business - the Salazar meat shop - and he was destined to be the next owner. Building snowmen, playing baseball, preparing dinner - all were activities the inseparable father and son duo bonded under. The sight of animal blood on his hands became one of comfort rather than disgust. The lifestyle of a butcher was meant for him, and your father would have never been prouder.

makerofthegames was Adam Salazar, and your dream had been destroyed.

The beginning of industrialization portended the end of the family business era. His father, always a resolute and determined man, refused to let business propositions intersect bloodlines and history. With the odds stacked against him, Demetrius kept the family business afloat, holding steadfast to his ideals and immediately rejecting any business proposals industrial executives put forth. Rumor has it that one of the head executives muttering the phrase "the man deserves to burn in hell" before angrily storming out the front door of the Salazar meat shop, his offer of acquisition totally unheeded by Demetrius.

The family business, the property it occupied since the beginning of its existence, and Adam's father were recently incinerated in a fire. Initially believed it was electrical, it was since proven to be arson. Adam Salazar saw it as an act of oppression - a weak means of getting things done, and with an oath of revenge, he intended to show everyone who truly ran the show in Caribou's Den's thriving economy: the small business owners who make it all work. His undertaking was twofold. One, he had to continue learning his father's craft in secret. His secondary objective was to locate those responsible for the death of his livelihood.

makerofthegames was a TOWN VOYEURISTIC WATCHER.

During the Night phase, he could choose someone to watch. Watching the individual would tell him who visited the target in the night. His secret practice of butchery and cooking, however, left him smelling as if he slept in the slaughterhouse all evening. Thus, anyone who visited his target - but not the target themselves - would be able to smell the scent of meat in the air as they went about their business.

makerofthegames was a LOYAL CUSTOMER, and thus held Caribou's Den's best interests at heart. He would achieve victory with his fellow cafegoers when all threats to the safety and stability of Caribou's Den were eliminated.

Once we finished inspecting Adam's body, a click of a loaded gun came next. Whoever had come to do their dirty business of killing the junior Salazar was still lurking in the room, their figure obscured by shadows. Before the individual could fire at Lyncroft, the door beside us flew off its hinges as another officer rushed in. Taking a quick shot at the figure and missing, he was promptly shot as the assassin fled.

Unable to administer any care for the headshot, the officer quickly passed. Examining his badge and ID, Lyncroft soon delivered the upsetting news.

"One of our finest, and one of your regulars."

"Damn," I growled. It was not okay for my own customers to come under fire - two of them had died this dawn alone. Looking over the face of the deceased, I was able to quickly identify the officer as Mirdini.

"You should probably stop sending your finest men to my cafe," I said. "They're going to get killed or arrested so easily."

"I thought having undercover officers would help," Lyncroft said, trying not to let tears flow from his eyes. "We've been able to find one of them - would've much rather had her alive, but I'll take what I can get."

"Maybe if we caught her alive, we wouldn't have so much death on our hands. This has to be retaliation."

"Just keep doing what you're doing," Lyncroft said. "We found one, we'll find the others."

Below's a summary about that fallen officer:

Mirdini has been MURDERED.

Every city needed law enforcement. No matter how peaceful or tranquil a city may seem, that safety is only due to the careful, diligent watch of the police. Recent events have (very clearly) shown that even a seemingly safe city has underlying tensions that can escalate to dramatic crime at any moment.

For Mirdini, however, this wasn't a job he wanted. Chasing down criminals and hitting them with a taser gun wasn't your idea of law enforcement activities. It's a necessary job, but one he'd rather not do. He envied coworkers who sat behind desks and doing paperwork and deductive work. Chasing and arresting felt like monotonous, thankless work, and you he harbored a fear of crossing the threshold of police brutality.

Thankfully, a certain Officer Colton Hawthorne found an opportunity to do a job he liked better.

Turns out police watch was requested by Lyncroft for Vincent's cafe - he was former active duty police officer himself, and the Chief of Police feared that maligned forces would attempt to take my life. Mirdini also overheard plans that I would kick up discussion to see if any verbal cues could catch criminals. It was contrived plan in his opinion, but whatever got the force closer to the answers worked for him. He found comfort in being nothing more than a plainclothes informant.

Mirdini was a TOWN ONE-SHOT LYNCHPROOF.

As an undercover cop, Mirdini would automatically send away the police officers who came to arrest him, using nothing more than a simple hand motion. Legal immunity couldn't work forever - if the crowd was convinced he was corrupt or acting as a double agent for the criminals, he would be subject to arrest and background checks as usual.

Mirdini was a LOYAL CUSTOMER, and thus held Caribou's Den's best interests at heart. He would achieve victory with his fellow cafegoers when all threats to the safety and stability of Caribou's Den were eliminated.

--

Later in the day. Finally opened the cafe for real after another two hours of uneasy sleep. Lyncroft didn't drop by for morning coffee, but the others trickled in. They lined up to read the newest reports and my retelling of the story, listening intently as I prepared coffees and took their money.

I soon noticed another was missing. Fearing the worst, I immediately reached out to summon Lyncroft for an investigation. Mid-ring, however, the missing patron stumbled into the cafe with his belongings in a few bags.

"Damn fires last night," icanhasdonut grumbled. "A handful of them managed to ignite buildings connected to the sewer system. My home happened to be one of them." Rather dejectedly, he sat down without ordering his coffee, pushing some overflowing clothes back into his bag, trying to fit the remainder of his possessions into his luggage.

icanhasdonut's house has been BURNED TO THE GROUND.

Another day, another round of discussion. Let's hope we actually get somewhere this time - the last 24 hours have my head spinning.

RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
I guess the question would be if Garu shot either of them in the night but I'm going to guess "no" and venture that we have some sort of third party?
RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
And that, children, is why you don't claim Watcher D2.
RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
Also omg Lynchproof? Are you serious Mirdini?!
RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
I'm so disappointed in you all now for not lynching Deens D1.
RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
dickwad burnt down my house I will fight you

also I'm fairly sure speedchuck is still scum and that's a scum ability
RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
Yeah, the most likely action for speedy's role is that speedy can vanish himself upon his death, whether it be by lynch or vig. I guess we can now assume he was scum and look at interactions that way.
[Image: 6xGo4ab.png][Image: sig.gif]
RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
ebwop: oh and i did not shoot either of the victims. i am a dayvig. i'm guessing that some other scum had a bonus second kill. based on smash ball's role, that seems like a theme.

RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
one note is that motg was "brutally murdered" while dini wss just "murdered"
RE: [14/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY THREE: Above the Law]
vote: Affle, given that it's been two days and he hasn't done anything that even resembles contributing. He's been shaking off all attention with "oh no im so bad at this" or "i am so busy like gosh could you wait until tomorrow"
