kitteneater why are you drawing virtual pets

i dunno! it's fun?

okay so like, there's this petsite i've been going to called Aywas, it lets you do your own custom pets, which is kinda fun. there's like different "grades" of customs too, ranging from "metal" (nothing added or subtracted from the base pet, just colored) to "blue" (50% base edited) to "silver" (either super highly edited, or just plain drawn from scratch)

however there's like copyright stuff regarding the official pet bases, and while it's most likely not a problem, i don't really feel comfortable posting my wip edits here lol


SO IN THE MEANTIME, I GUESS I'LL POST SOME SILVERS I MADE/AM MAKING


This is a Silver Species I made! I call them Oculus Catlings. Since there's two of them, they qualify as a custom species on the site, which means I can breed them and make more of them with cheaper items. Funtimes!


Here's a couple of bases I made. These were mostly experimental, since a lot of pet bases on the site aren't pixelly like these are. Unlike the Catlings above, I didn't officially make these their own species, but I let other people color their own and make them with unbreedable items.


This is a wip, and it's a little outdated too. I've already started coloring and shading it. Hopefully when I'm done I can make it for myself and have a cute, unique ghost! and then breed it to everything

uh i forgot to finish the shading on the legs, so enjoy those correctly-shaded toes, there.
also the white line thing looks better on a white background :Y
otherwise, I think this is coming out okay! i don't know if i'm actually done with the base colors, there, since like... gradients are really plain. if i add anything, i think i'll add some stripes to the legs and spots to the tongue... and maybe some other stuff.

-TO LOOK FORWARD TO ON NEXT GHOST UPDATE:
-fully finished shading
-highlighting
-more patterns
-perhaps even colored lineart?? but that is my usual Last Step.

i don't know nor care what a virtual pet is (because i have real ones) but jesus balls that last one and the first ones are great

Same here, i don't understand the concept of online pets so i didn't say anything but your art is always a treat, i love your monster designs

okay yeah to be fair, this particular site i'm doing this art for doesn't have as much "pet" aspect to it as other petsites? the point isn't so much to feed and bathe and play dress-up with your pets (though that last point is debatable), the point is the user-made art, and that's what I'm showing here.

Looking at the white outline stuff on a white background, and I don't really get it.

It's fab

the white outlines are a stylistic thing, they help separate parts of the pet so they don't blur together

meaning they're not actually on the site so i can't breed them and you'd have to use more expensive items to make them
when they get founded, peeps can make them with less expensive, but still kinda pricey items (assuming you want them to be breedable)

I'm not going to make it a species or anything, that's the only ghost that's going to exist unless I use certain breeding coins.
But uh, yeah, I'm not really planning on that. What I want to do is put it up for free breeding, and use a ton of Radioactive Breeding Coins, which basically result in mspaint-cut-and-paste children.

wouldn't you know it, a few months ago i actually got a job on the site, i get paid actual $$$ to do this stuff now~ but specifically, i have to mash together other peoples customs into new things. it's hard sometimes, but it's fun!
