Black Zenith [Adventure RPG / Chapter Four: Fires of Heaven]
RE: Black Zenith [Adventure RPG / Chapter Four: Fires of Heaven]
The guy on the balcony is wayyyyy out of your range. You could probably reach the guy with the rifle though, but only barely.
RE: Black Zenith [Adventure RPG / Chapter Four: Fires of Heaven]
Myra fought against the winds furiously up until she spotted a lycanthrope near the tower that appeared to be the cause of the sudden gusts. While it's too dangerous for her to continue on like this, Myra knew she had to get to her allies, and soon. There's no way traversing those hedges is efficient. Some of her companions have already met with these 'champions'; there is no way walking will get her anywhere in time. Myra attempts a spell to ward herself from this conjured gale, not willing to give up her flight path towards Bohw and Watson just yet.

Is it too dangerous to, say, have someone infuse my Mana-leapers with magic. If I jump high enough, I can dispel this illusion and have a GRAND BATTLE IN THE SCREAMING SKIES

Savannah plows face first into a hedge, her head narrowly avoiding one of the larger thorns. She stumbles back in surprise, trying to force it open like she did with the others. A growl escapes her throat when she realizes that the plants are resisting her magic, something holding them in place.

"Open! Come on!" She forces against the magic restraining against the plants, to no avail. "Damn it. Now I have to do this the old fashioned way..." The crunching of footsteps on the ground and Savannah whirls around, finding a dude with only a kilt on standing there. She's about to make a snappy remark about his lack of shirt when he nods and suddenly ignites himself. Savannah's mouth twitches into a grin. She plants the butt of her spear onto the ground, clasping her hands together. When she pulls them apart, a small spinning globe rests in her palm.

"Hey, I can see that you're hot stuff." Savannah smiles, then rears back and pitches the globe at the man, aiming low, hitting him with Absolute Zero. "But you really need to chill."

As you prepare to face off against your foes, something rather unexpected happens - A mighty roar echoes from the skies above, heralding a great red dragon diving straight towards the Royal Tower without sign of slowing, crashing into the solid stone facade and plowing through it like so many leaves in the wind, emerging several floors below to tumble to the ground with a crash not far from where Savannah and her adversary face off. Great rifts quickly spread in the stone around the gaping hole left behind by the dragon, the sound of cracking stone filling the air as the upper portion of the tower ever so slightly starts leaning to one side, threatening to tumble to the ground. The man on his balcony yells out in anger. Unphased, the dragon roars a challenge back.

Following this, five much smaller lights drop from the skies somewhere above, each seeking out one of you, dragging a glowing ribbon after them.

"Really, azaleas? How gauche. Perhaps we are in need of a bit of creativity here. Why go UP when one can go UNDER?"

Renzo's retrieves his sculpting tools from his bag, using his magic to allow him to burrow under the hedges and to try and reach Savannah.

With your extensive knowledge of magical sculpting, it takes you merely a few moments to dig a relatively stable passage under the maze, allowing easy movement from your current position to Savannah's.

You dont like the looks of some of those roots, though. They dont seem nearly as passive as they ought to. Regardless you think you should be able to make it all the way through on the next turn.

Other than returning his look of surprise with an angry and potentially violent glare however, Bohw had very limited options in getting out of it safely. So she decided to not get out safely, using a loose arm to try and reach inside her jacket for an incendiary grenade, whipping it out and priming it as soon as she could. She planned to throw the grenade in the hedge just above her, hoping the ensuing fireball will hopefully allow her to break free with her writhing as the entire bush broke apart. If Bohw's entire life had given her one thing, it was a tolerance for near-death experiences, after being impaled, de-horned, losing an eye and blasted to near unconsciousness, blowing herself up one more time didn't seem too far-fetched.

Mayor got his wish on meeting one of these champions and by the looks of it, it was a formidable foe indeed. But there was one glaring flaw in the construct's design, while that battle axe was probably very good at punching through Mayor's armor, it left it with limited options of attack, all them being "hit him with the axe." Plus it was only in one hand, it's other arm being restricted with the tower shield that it was unable to drop easily. Shifting his stance defensively, Mayor had the perfect counter attack, he would catch the axe with his shield a second time, then as it bounced off he would lash out and grab it's handle with both hands. From there, kick the thing away and disarm it as he tugged away from him, now all he needed to figure out was just what direction the construct was going to swing in.

Counting carefully, you lob the grenade into the air above you while hoping to Cryimi that your timing isnt off. Fortunately it is not, and the grenade explodes above you rather than in your face, exploding the bush around you, scorching you for 70 damage (roll 10-5), and as you scramble to escape the inferno the hedge has suddenly turned into, you are burned for an additional 50 damage. As you hop to your feet, a curious light streaks down from above, stopping in front of you, the light fading to reveal a small green gemstone which plops into your hands.

Cloudy Green Soupstone
Release the thing inside.
You feel patience from this stone.

Your adversary gives you little time to contemplate this development however as he drops down across from you, standing at a crossroads, one side of the hedge burning, the other not. This close, it becomes apparent that this man once bore horns like yourself, but only a pair of nubs remain now. He is no impling however and in fact looks every bit human save for the horn stubs and his rather unusual clothing. He snaps his fingers, and three magical spheres jump into existance around him, orbiting him as he moves. With a flick of the wrist, he points towards you and the closest sphere flashes towards you, followed by a smaller dart made up of the same luminescent light as the orb, dealing 477 damage and 59 damage.

Meanwhile, Mayor readies himself to block the earthern creature's swing, but is taken completely aback when the construct swings neither left nor right, but instead moves in close to slam its tower shield against Mayor's much smaller shield, knocking aside his defenses before planting the massive axe in Mayor's iron pauldron for 455 damage, leaving Mayor no choice but to simply counter attack for 221 damage (roll 16+5). Ripping the axe free, the rocky monstrosity steps back, raising its shield again as a thick layer of rock starts to sprout atop the creature's already formidable defensive array. This allows Mayor a moment of peace as a streak of light approaches him, fading to reveal a small gemstone which he catches with his free hand. Oddly, he feels a faint sense of familiarity from the stone. Strange.

Dim Red Tearstone
Release the thing inside.
Holding this, you are filled with a... longing.

You shield yourself from the gale winds, avoiding any damage that might have been dealt to you and steadying your course aswell as shielding yourself for 462 wind damage.

Then a thundering roar stops you dead in your tracks as a lightning strike originates from the lycan on the ground, splitting into forks of lightning that arc across the horizon. Though you are not struck, you're blinded and stunned, and somehow the very air itself has vanished! How are you supposed to fly with no air to carry you? You fall (again), striking the ground for 630 damage.

When a few moments later you can see again, something unreal is hovering before you, carried seemingly on a ribbon of light. It cant be, can it?

Somehow, the lycan appears to have followed you to where you landed, and is standing impassively nearby. He is wearing a light traveler's outfit stained with dust and mud, the vest open at the front. He doesnt seem particularly bloodthirsty as legends would otherwise claim the elusive lycanthropes to be.

A look of horror crosses the man's face as you begin winding up for your frost attack, but instead of slowing he speeds up, running towards you. As you throw the your globe, he spins in mid-air, and the flaming tattoo encircling his body seems for a moment to detach from him, replaced instead with a raging inferno in the shape of a fire wyrm which sweeps through the area, setting the nearby hedges aflame and burning you for 479 damage, before again taking the form of a tattoo.

Then your sphere strikes him, halting him in his tracks by deepfreezing him, dealing 1330 damage. He shrieks in agony... and anger.

Fire in the area deals an additional 72 damage to you.

Now that you have a few moments in which you probably wont be assaulted, a quick glance around you reveals a shiny object hovering next to you, a few strands of light particles dissipating from around it. Its a ring. Huh.

When next you can tell up from flipways, everything is still hurting. Ow, ow, ow, ow. You wish the world would just stop exploding you.

As she thinks of her next attack, a sparkle catches her eye, floating next to her. She snatches it from the air, making sure that the dude is distracted with her ice before glancing at it. Some sort of... ring? Savannah can hear a barely audible tune, almost at the base of her skull. She quickly slips it on, turning back to the flaming guy again.

This time, Savannah raises her hands up, then drops them down. Within an instant, the air around the two of them begins blowing, whipping at the flames and tossing Savannah's hair around. Watson had a harrowing tumble at the hands of a strange man hovering on a disk of blue fire(?). Because hiding behind a bush seemed like a good idea at the time when your opponent has a weapon that harnesses pure energy. It is then that he saw a jewel beside him as he lay on the blackened earth. A hazel gemstone, finely cut with no other distinct oh, nevermind, apparently it's glowing.

Watson almost threw it away, expecting it to explode in his face. He certainly isn't wrong to think that the champion wouldn't throw more magical projectiles his way. But the jewel did not explode immediately, so Watson realized it was safe. It even bore familiarity to him... like those jewels for which they had been in pursuit many days before.

He dutifully tucked it into an opposite pocket, as the one on his right breast pocket was being occupied by that other green jewel. He instantly felt a bit swifter. Watson buried his Champion blade in his "hamperspace"? He did need to come up with a better name for it, and his clothes were terribly rumpled from all the rowdy rows and rumbles in which he participates. In any case, the Starmetal would be a better fit for this situation, as he is not fighting the forces of "evil", only disillusioned people.

Watson stood up and raised it high into the sky calling upon that clanging bell, it was Happy Hour.

Clang.

And so, the winds poured through even faster, the water crystallizing in thick clouds.

Clang.

The clouds took on a sherry cherry-colored hue, in turn. Electrical charges were concentrated into an unsteady current that circulated throughout the nimbi.

Clang.

The bell halted and centered on him. Above it, a beautiful, rumbling, effervescent cloud of alcohol.

CLANGGGGGGGGGKRAKOOOOOOOOOOOMMM. The bell disappeared as a stream of wine-colored lightning struck Watson, arcing through him, even flattening out the wrinkles in his clothes! He hadn't felt this fabulous in days!

That is, he hadn't felt this drunk. Drops of pure ecstasy fell to the ground around him in a ring as Watson held his head down, and his guard up.

Mayor broke away from his opponent, staying outside of the reach of it's weapon as he stared them down. Observing his enemy, it was clear it wasn't mindless as he first thought and physically, this opponent out matched Mayor in every way. Even with dragons and other chaos developing around him, Mayor refused to let his gaze off his opponent, only moving when he reaches out and grab the falling jewel. Carefully wrapping his gauntlet around the precious item, Mayor too begins to transform, mimicking the enemy as crystal envelopes him like a second skin, channeling every ounce of energy he had stored. As he takes the new form, Mayor makes a clicking, scraping noise, to a normal being it meant nothing but an irritable scratching, but among constructs, it was a message of respect.

Bohw looked at the strange stone in awe, all up until the moment where she was struck down by the enemy due to a lack of attention. Immediately scrambling back to her feet and snatching some special fire bombs from her bag in the same motion, Bohw snarled at the man who had the audacity to attack her. Bohw lit the fuses with a spark of magic, threw them across the corridor...

...and instantly booked it, turning to run in the opposite direction. She was not dealing with that, withdrawing a small potion bottle she had stored in her bag and drinking it down in a hurry as she ran.

She enjoyed the magic ebbing from the crystal, letting its boon spur her into casting a regenerating aura on herself that will hopefully last her a while. Stuck to the ground for the time being, Myra then Changed Form and carefully stood up.

"We did not bring on this chaos," Myra called out to the lycanthrope in some small hope that it can still be reasoned with, "we're trying to find a way to dispel it! There is no vengeance to take up!"

As you engage with your adversaries, a distant light appears high above the city, streaking towards the ground like a meteorite or perhaps a comet. Enzu, the whitehaired man clad in silver glances up as the path of the meteorite becomes obvious. He looks on almost as if in yearning, though only another moment passes before the comet strikes the sorceror on the balcony from behind, sending him crashing to the stone floor. A figure cloaked in radiant energy rises from the impact point. The man meanwhile stares at the floor, his face frozen in a mask of anger and frustration. "Enough." He practically hisses, the sound echoing throughout the courtyard. "You shall know my WRATH."

With one gesture the sorceror rises, hovering in the air as he launches a great orb of fire at the figure, who falls into an evasive diveroll, avoiding the worst of the fiery explosion but not the shockwave that throws him flat against the railing, scattering the glowing particles that had shielded him. With one hand, he loosens the clasp securing his now-burning cloak to his back, letting the garment drop over the railing, the wind whipping the flaming cloth this way and that on its descent. In his other hand, Thunderpaw hefts his hammer, ready to face the king.

He practically snarls as your snowstorm whips about him, inflicting 68 (roll 1+8) damage. But he simply ignores it and slips up in front of you, lithely performing a whirling kick that looks as though it could have been part of a dance. You step back from the kick itself, but his leatherbound feet are trailed by a fiery blaze, which incinerates you for 510 damage.

Though your snowstorm is helping put out the fire a bit, the fiery serpent encircling the man is doing a much better job at setting everything aflame, including you. You take an additional 83 damage.

Then you see a glowing purple rune abruptly appear beneath the man's feet, and he vanishes, replaced by a fellow in a trenchcoat holding a rifle. He gives you a friendly wink then, eyeing the nearby symphony of frost and flame with distaste, launches into the sky, apparently propelled by some kind of jetpack on his back. He zips about rapidly, making himself a difficult target.

You pick up the crystal, feeling a jolt of energy as you do. You feel as though you could do more than one thing at a time, all of a sudden. Like... Swing one sword, and then another. Wait, where did that thought come from?

You then proceed to zap yourself with alcoholic lightning, healing yourself for 1138 (roll 7+6).

Then the fellow with the trenchcoat disappears. In his place appears a lithe man who happens to not be wearing a shirt, probably due to the fiery serpent that is encircling him. The hedges around the little floating platform he is standing on are soon set aflame as this serpent almost curiously inspects them.

Mayor transforms, preparing for a battle between iron & crystal and rock & stone. Meanwhile, Mayor's adversary neither responds to his golem speak nor waits for Mayor to finish transforming as he drops his guard and moves to attack, swinging the battleaxe in a straight arc at Mayor.

This does not faze Mayor in the slightest, and he easily raises his shield to deflect the linear attack (Hit 3-1 Vs Defense 7). The stone axe bounces back harmlesly, and Mayor's adversary once again raises his shield, strafing Mayor and waiting for another opportunity to attack.

Meanwhile, Bohw's bombs explode around her robed enemy. He hardly seems to notice, too busy staring skywards as he takes 252 damage (roll 13+5).

"They... Call to me. This is my time. My while... The stars..."

Though no stars are out this time of day, he seems transfixed by the sky nevertheless as he begins glowing with a steady luminous light, and you feel a weight drawing you back even as you run. You dont stop, but before you get long, the man explodes with a shockwave of power that sears your skin and threatens to drown you out as you are sent flying, your body crumbling against the ground as you take 3843. You feel the demons closing in around you.

You never did get to drink that potion.

Even the hedges are left decimated, leaves blown off them and the branches left to wither and die in the spin of seconds. Despite this, the luminescent pulse of power fades, leaving a ripple of stardust to fall gently from the sky in the area affected by the blastwave, almost like some kind of beautiful glowing snow.

You weave a powerful spell, one of mending and restoration, letting it sink into yourself and renew your vigour. You'll heal 331 each round for 5 rounds (roll 15+9, crit)

Something you said must've caught the lycan's attention, for he gives you a curious look, then begins to shake violently, exhaling a dark mist all the while. Then the lycan explodes. Or rather, the air around him does. Your human form is blown to the ground violently, and you swear you can feel your bones shake as you bounce once, taking 1333 damage.

Then, oddly, he walks over to you, offering you one clawed hand as if to help you up. He appears strangely unthreatening like this.

The king glares at Thunderpaw as the tower shakes and shudders, starting its fall towards the ground. Even as the stone balcony starts to slant dangerously, threatening to drop both Thunderpaw and the king to the ground, he stands calmly. He brings his hands together in a gesture similar to a prayer, and as he does, the tower stops, suspended in midair. Then he moves his hands in a complex pattern and you watch as the balcony rips itself free of the building, righting itself and with it, yourself and the king. The tower hovers above the ground, loose bricks hanging spread haphazardly every which way. You watch as one fourth of the tower rips itself apart from the rest, like a long and tall stone splinter, rising above the rest of the tower until the thin end of it is level with the balcony... The tip pointing at Thunderpaw's heart.

Several floors of what was once a tower are hurled towards you, like a great stone spear. What do you do?
