I’ve spent most of last year working on doing without glasses—if you’re wondering why, it’s because no prescription was able to correct my astigmatism to my satisfaction. It’s been difficult… to say it’s “work” is no mistake (LASIK is cheaper, in a sense), and most of the information on the Internet about doing this is either saying it can’t be done (false!) or is potentially dangerous hokum (don’t do it!). But seeing everything get just a little less blurry every month is worth the price to me: the pain, ridicule, and slower reading are simply temporary inconveniences slowly going away.

The job might even be effectively complete late this year, which is an optimistic estimate… but it would be pretty poetic.
