If I'm using singular they to refer to a specific individual, does it conjugate other words as singular, or is it still plural?

eg My friend said they was interested in watching a movie tonight.

RE: Grammar thread
In my understanding it works analogously to singular you. I might ask a friend "Were you thinking of watching a movie tonight?" even though they're only one person. "Were" is conjugated for plural because "you" was originally a plural-only form ("thou" was used for singular).

I haven't heard agreement on "themself" vs. "themselves".

All that said I'm just a cis person who likes talking about grammar, if the person who's using they/them pronouns has a preference that's what matters.

I agree with the above ^^

Joe Starman and I are brothers, in case my "no" came off to other people as really imposing or stand-offish.
