RE: Word Salad Mafia - Night -1? - Signups STILL OPEN - STARTS DEC 9
ALL PMs with Quicktopics have been sent! Please let me know ASAP if you haven't gotten yours or any other issues or questions!

Signups are now officially closed!

Night 0 starts in about 48 hours, at 8PM MST December 11th!

Now your previously scheduled pre-game lore post:

Day 0

The simulation iteration took forever to start. Watson was unclear as to if it was an issue, but he wasn't willing to question it when he came in in the morning and saw that it was finally running. It looks like things will have to be more complicated: it's too late to stop what's coming tomorrow, but the simulation probably won't have decisive results by then.

I wonder what they will say? Sure, the legality of tomorrow's plans are... clear... but in the end, it doesn't really matter as long as the artifact is there. Watson felt he had all the expertise he needed to pull this off. The simulation. His partners. Everything is perfectly, and meticulously planned.

The time is finally almost here.

Night 0

Watson didn't go home that night. Instead, he kept working on the simulation. Watching. Observing. Seeing what was coming...

Night 0 will last 48 hours, at 8PM MST 12/13. Players with Night 0 actions or effects (whether you do or not is clearly stated in your quicktopic) should complete them by this time. The rest of you, enjoy a nice night's rest.

Day 1

8:00am. Most of the staff has arrived. A few stranglers is fine -- it won't matter if there are witnesses as long as everything works according to schedule. Unfortunately, the simulation was still running... but it's no matter. The model already believes the treasure is here, it just needs one more confirmation. And you have time. Plenty of time, the way this scheme is working. You quickly meet your colleagues -- under the premise of a exploratory team meeting. They all confirm that their portions of the plan are ready. Looking down at your cell phone, you smirk. Finally time to show them their place. Opening the app one of your colleagues designed, a simple diagnostic goes through a list, outputting positive indicators until it all disappears, replaced with larger text STATUS OK. Looking up at your team, you say, "it's time to show them all," and reach down and --

The Start button greys as half the status indicators go red. A loud zapping noise echoes outside the conference room, and the lights go out. Moments later, the lights come back on, and one by one the status items return to OK, and soon the button becomes available then. You press it, and hear the distinctive metallic noises of the security gates and door guards lock the staff in. Then, confused at the unplanned portion of the day, your team goes to the generator room.

~~~
The staff congregated at the generator room hearing the doors lock and the zapping noise. Opening the door, it soon became apparent. Palamedes's body sat, charred, as they had briefly had the entire conduit powering the facility coursing through their body.
Palamedes has died. Palamedes was Kyle Jones, the ???. As the ???, Palamedes could do things or something.
Palamedes has become a Stump and may continue to communicate in the thread.
As people started to walk around from the horrid sight in the generator room, they were interrupted with a "Hey!" Looking back, a ghostly figure rose up from Palamedes's body. "Wow, I have no idea what happened, but I feel GREAT!" Shock hit the crowd. The next hour or so was spent trying to figure out what happened to Palamedes and how, but left with no solutions and time to calm down, some time passed.
~~~

Walking back to discard Palamedes's now apparently unneeded body, there was one more surprise lying in wait. At some point in the time people were talking to Palamedes, not only had their dead body vanished, but had been replaced with a gaudy red booth with a sharp blade protruding from the surface. On a plague attached to the booth was the following:

THE BLOOD MARKET IS NOW OPEN

ITEMS AND POWERS BEYOND YOUR WILDEST IMAGINATIONS CAN BE YOURS FOR A PRICE YOU ALLmost of you CAN PAY
SHOULD YOU WANT THE WARE ON SALE TODAY, YOU NEED ONLY PAY WITH YOUR LIFE

The Blood Market is now open. On sale today is the Soul-infused Lifedust. Players may bid for this item by wagering 1/6s of their life. A player can bid as much of their life as they can, so long as they have at least 1/6 left. Extra lives may also be wagered, should anyone have any. Ties will be resolved by random roll. Only the player who gets the item will actually lose the life they wagered.

So.

Blood market.

Thoughts?

I’m joking, real post starts below.

Ok, so Palamedes died, and became a stump. From what I remember of the role, they become invulnerable, and can talk, but cannot vote.

Obviously, this is different.

Now, there are a few possible ideas in what happened.

First, the mafia targeted Palamedes, and his role allows him to be able to talk, while dead. If so, is he invulnerable? Can he vote for a lynch?
(Questions I give are not for the moderator, they are questions I want answered.)

Second, Palamedes had an ability where he can kill himself, to become a stump.
This theory is not unlikely if the stump is not invulnerable, as it is possible that Palamedes had no clue what he was doing. I would even go so far to say as it being the most likely theory, due to something I asked the moderator/LegendaryQ. (Are we allowed to copy paste stuff in quicktopics, or even restate it? Questions in parenthesis are for LegendaryQ.)

Now, since Palamedes is dead, but is a stump, is he alive or dead? Can he wager his soul?

Ok so I’m just gonna ask:

People can vote for stumps?

Even though they are dead?

Also, why

Did

Granolaman claim mafia?

You may paraphrase responses to questions, or quote mechanics or whatnot, but please don't do things like copypaste the entirety of your role or anything like that. I follow the same mentality as the rule made by Mirdini for Wander Island, quoted here for convenience:

"In general, do not copy/paste stuff en masse out of your Quicktopics or other communications with me, please at least paraphrase information. Posting the exact mechanics of something that happened to you or what item you got in the night is kosher, posting the entirety of your role pm is not. If you're not sure, just ask me."

I do wonder if Pala died 'cuz of outside circumstance, or. He got an instant death thing with his role.

Ah, thanks.

So, the thing he told me was that people won’t be able to play the game by death from any night 0 effects(which he says was whatever was activated).

Since he is dead, but can technically play, I think he died by his own hand, if we aren’t considering flavour.

Of course, the easiest way to confirm this is to ask Palamedes.

Palamedes, did you activate any Night 1 Effects?

Answer if you are permitted to.

Looks at self. Did not check for few days. Did not receive PMs for few days. Ignore thread. Get left behind. OMG. I need to get in here.

I'm kinda not used to mafia that begins with night. Usually, mafia begins with day. Anyway.

Suspicious. Why did you feel the need to claim as mafia? I have a suspicion that you might have a wincon with lynching yourself.

Or maybe it's just a matter of DAy One Shenanigans, where folks feel that the first day is free reign to do all sorts of nonsense. I'm going to assume that Palamede's Death is part of their Role. We have a market that trades in lives. I Wouldn't be Terrible Surprised to learn there are ways to return from the grave in this game

RE: Word Salad Mafia - Day 1 - A Shocking Introduction - 15/16 Alive
I have a feeling that partial lives are going to be a big aspect of this game's mechanics. If sacrificing sixths of your life was inconsequential, I feel it would have been introduced differently (like a currency).

My current guesses are:
  • Palamedes gets the extra life pieces, possibly coming back to life for a Day/Night Cycle or
  • Palamedes uses the spent partial lives as fuel for their win condition
  • There are roles that have influence over lives at a 1/6 level (killing or giving, or something else?)

These are mainly unfounded, although LegendaryQ does confirm the possibility of having multiple lives:

RE: Word Salad Mafia - Day 1 - A Shocking Introduction - 15/16 Alive
If someone did this to me, who and why?

That said, both the flavour for my death and my absurd role name implies that I might have been destined to die right off the bat like this (though my role doesn't explicitly say so and I had no night action to do this to myself). I might be able to get the power to do other things further down the line but apparently most of it is conditional so who knows if I'll ever figure it all out.

Hey Myeth, want anything else besides these unfortunately few details?

amos why don't you ask your questions?

Don't really know how to feel about Hunter right now, trying to puzzle things out early on like this is good but it reads like a lot of purposeful filler to try and make it look like they're saying more than they are.

Lordly I am dead, that's pretty far from 'usual day one shenanigans' which are more just some early regular shitposting.

Yeah, but are you really dead?

You can still talk, after all. I literally have no clue about how the roles work here, but I’m assuming you have a vote.

If you are dead, you shouldn’t also be able to bid for the blood market, right?

Can you test that?

A stump just means you're dead but can still talk. That's it.

Oh cool ok

So, now that we got that settled.

I have no clue what we are supposed to do next.

Normally, I’d ask why Palamedes was targeted, is he a usual target, blah blah blah, but.

I don’t even know if there is a mafia.

So for now, I’ll just wait and see.

I feel like I'm a mid level target, able to figure some things out and occasionally be useful but almost always blows it in the endgame, blah blah meta meta. Probably some sort of mafia so there are reasons to hunt and I don't want to see excuses! Get working guys or I will haunt you all to kingdom come!

okay yeah so I have one of those crypic-puzzle kind of roles and Im currently trying to deceiper exactly what any of it means but I will say that I have a mason partner and I dont have any killing or visiting powers.

I did ask my mason partner to do me a favour though so im waiting on the outcome of that.
