After falling for a few more seconds a flashing light gets your attention, looks like the end of this inter-dimensional tunnel! You brace yourself for impact.

If by kung fu-ing the ground you meant hitting the floor with your whole body then you successfully did block the ground. You stay still on the ground for a few seconds, trying to psychologically prepare yourself for whatever you're gonna see when you open your eyes.
