RE: [17/19] Frozen Hearts Mafia [DAY TWO: Irony and Shrapnel]

"Everyone shut up."
The crowd freezes again. I'm doing good with this crowd control business.
End of Day Two Votals
Speedchuck (9) (Garuru, Granolaman, makerofthegames, Mister Visceral, Mirdini, OzTheWizard, SupahKiven, Acionyx, icanhasdonut)
Granolaman (1) (speedchuck)
Stiqqery (1) (Palamedes)
Palamedes (1) (Stiqqery)
Abstaining (5) (Affle, Truegreen, Schazer, Ginx-sama, Cat)
The crowd reached a consensus amazingly fast. They watched me in anticipation, waiting for me to pick up the phone and condemn one of them to arrest. The actual surprise?
"I already made the call when you weren't looking. Someone's got to have a sense of order around here, and it looks like I'm going to be that person. You make a ruckus about a man, he's going to the slammer. Maybe next time we'll try to focus even with a lunatic firing shots in the air?"
I still wondered how he wasn't arrested for that. While contemplating the matter, police came and asked for speedchuck. He left rather quietly, calmly giving in to police presence. The rest of the cafe sat again in a reserved, quiet manner. Some calmly joked about the day's happenings, trying to hide their shakiness over what went down. I myself set out for the nearest hardware store to get the shattered window boarded up.
As I was walking back past the intersection of 23rd and Zephyr, I got a call on my cellphone. Lyncroft must've called while I was away - I instructed my phone was only for emergencies. The person they arrested this time must've been quite the catch.
"Lyncroft?" I asked.
"Blanchard," a familiar old voice replied. "It's going to take a while for this report to come out. There's some issues with the background check systems."
"Where's your tech department?" I asked.
"They're on the case, but something's up with it. It misbehaves on occasion, but it's unusual for it to act up this much."
"Don't fret," I replied. "Just call the cafe line when the report's up."
I made my way back and patched up the window, a few of my customers helping out. Knowing the situation at hand was defused, Lowell dropped by for coffee. He didn't stay long, but it made me glad to have him back for a moment. Minutes turned to hours, and still no call from Lyncroft came.
Right as I was about to storm into the windy night to pay the police a visit, the call came. Customers on their way out paused and stopped to listen to one side of our conversation.
"I can't get the report out tonight, Vincent."
"Why's that?" I responded, a little frustrated with the sudden lack of information.
"My guys have been fighting the system for hours, and conducting manual interviews with the suspect. They're telling me they need to investigate further."
"Lyncroft, I'm going to head down right now and figure this out. I need to know these kinds of things for my own investigations, if you want me to do my damn job-"
"Vincent, you'll be killed. One of them's dead through your arrangements, and it's pitch black out there. Full moon tonight. Nobody will find your body until dawn."
"Then get me a police escort."
"I'm not sending anyone else out tonight," Lyncroft said. "As far as I'm concerned, the darkness is a death sentence now that one of their ranks was killed. Kicking the hornet's nest, if you will."
"Fine," I grumbled, hanging up the phone. With one deft hand gesture, I dismissed the curious crowd and locked up for the night. I made sure the lock on my basement door was working tonight.
I don't think I'll read. My stomach's in knots, and these suspense thrillers aren't good for my stress levels. Sleep is going to be hard enough as it is tonight.
Night Two ends Friday, June 27th at 10PM EST (~45 hours).
All players are advised to check into their Quicktopics during the night phase. Please be prompt and timely in submitting night actions, should you have them.
