Because he was easily pressured, he gave in. Moreover, the idea that his friend could come back spurred him on. He was told by the elders where the artifact was, though you still wonder how any of them navigated that infinite white void (Though, the void was less void-like by the appearance of their little hidden cave of stories.)
The elders told him that there were six shards all in all, and the first one was very near. Retrieving it, however, would be dangerous, as if the seal on the jealous sister really WAS weakening, the part of the seal that the shard held back would have more of those things that kept attacking the village.
Credit's Harmon asked why the things would stop him if he was going to take the thing that held their leader back.
The elders said that the jealous sister was smart-- She probably knows that the seal would weaken on its own, but don't want the shards to come together to seal her away again.
"So why not--" the Harmon started, but the elders interrupted. He was always the pessimistic Harmon, and could think of nearly a thousand ways that it could go wrong. Regardless, the elders sent him on his way.
He mumbled under his breath, and went on his way.
A ways away from the village, he saw a light yellow lily growing from the white void.
