RE: We chat about videogames and videogame accesories.
At a prompt from my brother, who never payed enough attention to the story for it to make sense (and oh gosh is there a lot of story - I can see how it slipped by him the first time), I have been playing Final Seventh Fantasy. He claims that it's the best in the series, and while I've not played that many (1 and 13 are the only ones I've beaten), I think I'd agree. The mechanics are solid, the story is complex and though confusing ultimately makes sense (even though the motives for doing things things are a bit unclear - I get that Shin-Ra is killing the planet, by why are we trying to stop them from blowing up Meteor, exactly?), the characters are memorable and well-developed (though I'm not sure if I missed Tifa's backstory or if there just wasn't much of it)... It's a very impressive game, and I sorta wish modern games had as much thought put into them as this one seems to have had.
The soundtrack is... well, it's the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack. It's pretty good.

Right now I'm on Disk 3, but I'm thinking of holding off going in the crater and beating up a weapon or two first, level my materia some, that sorta thing. I'll probably beat the crater once "normally" before going back and getting as much as I can stand. All that (beat all weapons, get and master at least one of each materia, get all final limits and best weapons) will require jumping through quite a few hoops and probably more than enough grinding for one lifetime, so a once-through of the crater would probably be a good idea anyway.
