The floor was starting to shake. This was rather disconcerting.
"We'd better...hurry up." This was met to much agreement and they started taking longer strides, then outright running.
Which was why they almost ran right into Alex and the Manikin.
Alex reacted quickly and jumped into a defensive stance while Yume and Eemp jumped backwards to avoid being accidentally sliced. They stood in awkward silence, remembering that the glass people could disguise themselves near perfectly. But then Rong just went ahead and started to attack, firing a large fireball that Alex dodged by jumping aside, though he tried to take advantage of it by trying to let his sword absorb at least some of the fire.
Rong would have continued to attack, but Eemp prevented her, using whatever power it was that damn wizard embedded it with. She visibly strained against an invisible force before giving up, sullenly becoming inactive once more.
Alex sheathed his sword again, a slightly worried smile on his face. "Well, I suppose glass can't breathe fire. You must be re-" Lainey's hand shot out to squeeze Alex's, and she only held it tightly for a few seconds before stepping back.
"Flesh, not glass," she announced. "What about that mannequin?"
"Not glass," Alex said with certainty, and she shrugged as if to say 'if you say so.'
"You haven't happened to have found an exit, have you?" Right asked, trying not to look at Rong. But before Alex could shake his head, another sound came from down the hallway. The pattering of feet and the sound of malicious baying.
The Manikin jumped up to its feet and started to run just as Vasily came into view, dragging behind Annabell, who looked happy for the most part, though slightly confused.
"What're ye standin' 'round fer? Run!" the pirate shouted as they passed the group, who turned to see what they were supposed to be running from, out of curiosity.
As soon as they saw the snarling face, the snapping teeth and, most importantly, the collapsing floor, they began to run as well. The hell-dog was still a bit slow, meaning they managed to put quite a distance between them, but they still had to find an exit before they were engulfed.
As they continued running, Glass-Lainey suddenly appeared, eyes fearful. Alex and Vasily gripped their swords tightly, but Lainey called out, "It's okay! I hope."
"This way!" she cried, before turning down another hallway. They instinctively followed her down. Though it almost looked as though it was a dead end, the arch gave it away as a large double-door. Glass-Lainey continued to shout, "Over here!" and she was about to push open the doors when Glass Annabell suddenly came out from a side door, having apparently taken a shortcut, before stabbing Glass-Lainey forcibly with her knife. With a gasp, Glass-Lainey crumpled to the ground and shattered.
The group stopped as Glass-Annabell swung her knife towards them.
"You are not leaving," she said coldly. "If we must go down, then you will go down with us."
"An' wha' makes ye think ye can stand up tae all o' us?" Vasily growled back.
"Simple," Glass-Annabell smiled at a private joke. Suddenly, the glass shards that used to be Lainey rose up and pointed towards the group, their sharp ends glinting slightly. "I control the glass."
The hell-beast howled once more, ready to devour the world. The Manikin, a bit unsure why everybody stopped, tried to run for the door again. The glass floor seemed to reach up to grab its feet, but it broke the restraint easily. Still, it was slowed down enough for the glass to continue grabbing until eventually, it engulfed the Manikin all the way to its waist.
Glass-Annabell smiled wickedly. "You see?"
The baying sounded uncomfortably close.
