Sorry, I just felt like sharing this. The reason cathedral glass is thicker at the bottom is the technique of the glass blowers. For panes of glass, they spun molten glass to create a round, mostly flat and even plate. It's not exactly flat, though - the edges would grow thick. So when the glass was cut and placed, the thicker side would be placed downward. Stability and whatnot.
