"What's i' doin'?" Vasily backed away to the wall, holding up the broken fireplace poker. Beside him, not-Lainey crouched, her hair raised as inside, the various voices decided upon what to do. Lissa advised to wait and assess the situation before letting out Niko prematurely, wanting to keep an advantage over the others in case one decided to fight. So, Yume was left watching the swarming mass of spiders.
"I...I don't know..." Right and Rong had retreated from the body quickly when the spiders came, not exactly wishing to be swarmed. "It looks like..."
"An orgy?"
"No. Shut up. I was going to say it looked like they're feeding..." They moved closer to the window. The wriggling mass was growing.
Eemp, apparently having sensed something (though it's hard to tell what a bunch of hay can sense), turned slowly around, shining his felt smile towards Hatman and Jordan. This had the unfortunate effect of knocking Right and Rong against the side of the window and dragging them painfully out. "What is wrong with you, you little...oh."
The superhero approached, tipping his hat politely. "'ullo, mate. Anything the matter?"
"Uh, well," the red dragon managed to get out before Vasily and not-Lainey burst out the door to avoid being suffocated by the spider mass. "Get away!" Vasily shouted needlessly, as those still near the cottage were already getting away quickly. Spiders were already poking through the thatch. The walls seemed to bulge impossibly, and then burst outward as the mass of spiders outgrew the house.
It seemed to sink into a wriggling lump, covering most of the clearing, before bringing it up into basically a large, black sphere. Jordan squeaked, starting to back away until he felt the heat of the fire approaching, forcing him back to the clearing. The fire had encompassed them now. Nobody could go in or out.
The spider-mass, apparently satisfied by this, shot out a string of itself at the group. This 'leg' only struck ground - its opponents had jumped away, spreading out across the clearing - digging in deep before unearthing itself again to rejoin the main body.
"Alright," Right muttered as the nauseating mass seethed. "I'm not sure if this'll work...but pick up a rock and try shooting it at that thing with a burst, a small burst, of fire."
Rong clenched a stone that used to be part of the hut in her mouth and though she grumbled about 'unsatisfying' and 'flaming spiders,' she followed the command. She forgot to aim, but she didn't need to. The mass was too big to miss. The rock shot out, a stream of fire dissipating behind it, and it struck the spider-mass. It didn't come out. The hole it created filmed over with more spiders, and after a few seconds, it shot the rock back out again, as well as a few dead spiders, at Hatman, who dodged with an indignant yelp.
"Hm. Maybe we should set this on fire."
Rong, since she clenched the rock too hard and almost broke her teeth, scowled. "Ya could've said that before!"
At this point, the spider-mass attacked again, this time shooting several arms at once in an attempt to attack everybody. It was an easy-to-dodge attack, (Vasily even managed to slash at the arm as he jumped to the side) but Eemp had not expected the arm to sweep over to where it had jumped and was partially engulfed by spiders that immediately went to work, riping its fabric. Rong quickly set fire to the arm, but the main body detached from it before the fire could spread, leaving a mass of writhing, flaming spiders on the ground.
"Dammit, at this rate, we'll loose too much straw...hey! You!" Right called out to Jordan, who was scurrying about, trying to look for a place to hide but finding nothing. "That guy said you had pyrokinesis or something like that, right? Set fire to that thing there!"
