SpoilerWhen, in the course of human events, a round takes seven effing months, it becomes necessary to do something about that. I mean really, guys.
So here's how it is: If we go for a week with no posts, I'm outsourcing a post to a guest writer. I'll just hit someone up and be all "Hey, want to write a post for GradMass?"
The purpose of this is to drive things forward. First, by helping break stagnation- stuck with no clue what to do next? Well maybe a guest post will help you along. Second, by being a sort of a threaty thing. I'm going to be picking a range of guests, and they can't be guaranteed to know what all you're planning, and their posts are just as canon as anyone else's. If you let it get to be a postless week, you run the risk of having someone inadvertently mess things up for you.
And third (and most simple), by being a bit of a slap in the face. You're 20% of this battle, and your battle is limping along so slowly that I need to consider bringing in outsiders to keep it going. Come on. This is your battle. YOURS.
I've been taking a sort of survey, and while I don't have all of the responses yet, I can already let you know what the majority of people think was the major cause of inactivity: themselves. "I just didn't post as much as I should've."
There are five of you in the game right now. That means that you should be carrying one fifth of it.
You're not one among many. You're one of a small, finite group, and you can't slack and expect the battle to go on without you.
On the flip side, it doesn't take much to keep things going. One post a month from each of you will be a bit more than enough to keep the guest posts at bay. I'd like to see more. I'd like to be optimistic. But after last round, I'm finding that a bit hard.
You know what I'd love? I'd love to be able to refresh my subscriptions in the morning and be able to hope for a post. Right now? Seeing a GradMass post is a pleasant surprise. The exception to the rule.
I'm not asking for 1000-word posts left and right. I just want /something/. I just want to be able to see a new GradMass post without going "holy shit."
This is your game. You and just four others. Talk to them. Plan with them. Support each other.
You can make this game great.
Unfortunately, at the moment, you still have to pass stagnant to get there.
