He can be lied to and believe it (for a while at least), and if you can trick him into thinking you're human or that someone else is not human though (disguises, poor lighting, whatever), you're gold.

SpoilerFor example-
Simon is a pretty smart dude, clocking in at INT 18. He laughs at all these moronic bunny people he sees walking around day to day and smites them for their lack of intelect. But then, he runs into Miss Sinclaire; turns out she's also pretty smart (INT 20). As a result, she classifies for Half Human status under Birds of a Feather.
Kracky (Luck 10), Zwerte Pete (Luck 6), Iadrod (Luck 7), and Simon (Luck 6) play poker together for some contrived reason. Zwerte Pete is having shitty luck at the cards just like Simon, so he doesn't make a fuss on the occasional good hand. Iadrod seems to be getting a better streak, but is still reminiscent of his own poor situation so he respects it. Kracky wins the pot; Simon flips the table at him and calls him a scumbag.
Pretty much, when Simon and another character have similar stats in regards to a context action, they can gain the higher benefit of Birds of a Feather. When discussing how to fix a machine, Simon and Miss Sinclaire's int stats match up and he treats her opinion better. If they were to play cards, however (Miss Sinclaire with Luck 10), he would likely crush her fingers and her game for being a mutant vermin. Set a range for 2 stat points above and below any of Simon's stats; this is the Respect Range that lets a character gain the benefits of birds of a Feather. Doing this would balance out the racism bonuses a lot better than a mere "roleplaying advantage".
