Name: Baron Balthaz of Vaye
Class: Knight
Bio: This old coot is named Balthaz, formerly a minor noble of the principality of Vaye in the Protectorate of Rua. He has an infatuation with authority and military leadership, gleaned mostly from stories and history books. He ruled his small territory for a while, but not particularly well- in attempting to build an army of knights to display his military power, he overtaxed his citizenry and was generally not well-liked.
Eventually, even his small platoon of soldiers became fed up with his posturing and belligerent ambitions, and staged a coup that ended with his exile. His considerably wiser lieutenant now rules his territory, and has been recognized by the Protectorate.
Baron Balthaz considers the mutiny an outrage, but has neither the manpower nor the political clout to restore himself to the throne. He seeks to join the Blades not to protect or serve any people, but to surround himself with powerful allies and rebuild his reputation, so that he can eventually reclaim his territory. (He is, however, willing to fake altruism and heroism to the best of his ability, if it means getting powerful warriors on his side.)
Balthaz is frail, and possesses little but his knightly armor since his exile. He carries an extremely impressive-looking golden lance- and he does his best to hide the fact that it's purely decorative and is more or less useless in combat due to its unreasonable weight and soft golden spearhead. Someone less preoccupied with prestige would presumably have discarded such a glittery toy a while ago, but the pride of the Baron of Vaye is not so easily swayed by common sense.
