they craft a raft and abandon the disappearing island for the next. but the raft doesn't hold together well, and so they end up stranded on some kind of sand bar, just enough for a picnic.

and here, through the tears, our characters find a camaderie. this is going to be our last day alive, so let's play games and tell stories of our mothers while the water licks our heels

and when they finally sink under... they see that what has been created in all these drownings is an Atlantis situation
