"Hey," says Tom to the medic on a different channel, "am I really the sensible one?"
"Don't let it go to your head," says the medic. "I'm comparing you to Shiva, who's a reckless, headstrong, irresponsible, foolish, self-absorbed, thoughtless, repellent, treacherous, shifty, lazy, no-good freeloader who got into the program on a technicality and has neither a sense of personal hygeine-"
"Hey!" says Shiva,
"-nor any respect for others' privacy. Not that I didn't know this whole time that you were eavesdropping."
"Takes one to know one," says Shiva before switching off the channel.
"Anyway, Tom," says the medic, "compared to that, yes, you're sensible."
"Thanks," says Tom. "I think."
"But for what it's worth," adds the medic after a pause, "I'm still hoping against reason that Izvor is alive. And Shiva came up with a way to buy us some time, even if it's... dangerous. So I'll give them that much credit."
"I didn't really ask you about Shiva, though," says Tom. But the medic has already gone back to the main channel.
