"Hey Shiva," says Tom over a private channel, "am I really the sensible one?"
"Despite the fact that the medic thinks so," says Shiva, "yes, I think... you know, you're thoughtful. You don't rush into things. You listen, and you consider. That's sensible." They pause. "So, what about me? Am I the stubborn one?" Shiva's tone isn't serious.
Tom takes it seriously anyway. They think for a moment before answering. "I don't know," they say, "you're usually pretty relaxed. But you do have a defiant streak. I think you're stubborn when it counts. You made it through the colonist program, despite your unusual background. Everyone demanded more of you. But you didn't give up."
"They demanded a lot from all of us."
"Even still."
"Well, hey, thanks," says Shiva. "I'll take that compliment."
